Does anybody know why he cut his dead mother and stuck his hands into her stomach?
I assumed it was because the only real relationship he had with his mother was that they were biologically related. So the only we way he could mourn her was to 'return to the womb' or something. I don't know, this movie was pretty insane.
shareI view it as a "born again virgin" kind of symbolism. His hands were the two things he was most ashamed of and where all his sin lied. Because he was created in her womb, he was giving her back all the sin he committed on account of her and being "born again" with a clean slate. That's just my interpretation I'm sure there's plenty of others.
shareI think it represents incest. Look at it from the angle of the Oedipus complex: First he kills his father, then "sticks it in" his mother, then gets punished (castrated) by having his hands cut off by another father, i-e God. Having his hands cut off also represents a liberation from the guilt of killing his father.
