One of the most polarising films ever

This is actually one of the most polarising films i've ever seen.

Some people think it's a fantastic film (some even think its a masterpiece), but there are also people who think it's one of the worst films ever made.

Very interesting

What do you guys think of it? Great or God Awful?

I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece, that's too strong, but I think its a very interesting and unique film and in particular it does a fantastic job at creating its world and atmosphere, with the use of visuals and music etc. It feels like stepping into a nightmare.

 If at first you don't succeed, you're not Chuck Norris

Well said Oki. I agree. Even if it has its faults, it was still interesting to watch just because of how unique it was. Refn makes movies unlike any other, and they're more of an experience than watching a movie. They all feel surreal, just like how nightmares are.

I enjoyed it better than Drive. I found the relationship between Gosling's character and his mother fascinating and painful. The script allowed Gosling to do more as well. Plus I liked the setting quite a bit.

I think The Neon Demon may have fractured popular opinion even more than OGF.

Great and groundbreaking works of art often polarize. Works of art that enjoy enormous popular acclaim and success often tend to be safe and very middle ground - to appeal to the greatest market, one must offend no one. To be bold and pursue something remarkable such as OGF means that Refn MUST alienate people. To be equally loved and loathed is a mark of someone really pushing the creative boundaries. Over time, this movie will be remembered as a film of unique brilliance. It just needs time.
