Disappointed

Just watched the first episode and am quite disappointed. I'm a huge Chris Lilley fan and love "We Could be Heroes" and "Summer Heights High". I'm hoping the series warms up somehow but the start doesn't look promising. I didn't find Gran all that funny (reminded me of an un-funny version of Mr G). Also, I thought he needed to introduce more characters in the first episode. Just focussing on Gran and the brothers got tired very quickly. Don't get me wrong, I love Daniel and Nathan but in small doses.

The end of the episode showed a preview of next week's show with SMouse, which also doesn't look that promising. I really thought Chris Lilley was a comic genius until viewing this first episode. It hit home to me that he's just as fallible as anyone.

I have high hopes for the Japanese character.

I disagree, I thought the whole episode was hilarious, especially the twins and wouldnt mind if the whole series just focused on them!! I too though am a bit apprehensive about the S.mouse character, the bits of next weeks episode they showed with him in it did not seem as funny some how...

It's a total flop imo.
Not funny at all.

^But then she would basically just be a retread of Mr G.

I loved SHH and WCBH but I agree that some of the characters seem a bit laboured. The one that sticks out as the worst is Blake though, I just skip over his scenes as much as possible.

BARROWMAN!! *Shakes Fist*

I have known so many ppl like the Blake character, I think it rings true and is hilarious...this series is developing into a classic.

"Gran should have been written as a tyrant who gets absolutely no respect...from the kids or from fellow staff. Maybe as someone who tries to be hip with the kids but who is just a moron."

^That would suck. I love Gran, very realistic character, if she was that lame character you just made up it'd be funny one, maybe two episodes. The funniest part about Chris Lilley's characters is that even though they are portrayed to be the most off-putting people alive, he's usually surrounded by people nodding seriously and agreeing with everything he says.

And the funny part about the twins isn't that one's deaf. I didn't find that funny in we can be heroes either. They're just a pair of funny aussie bogans who catalyse the final meeting between the characters (and are actually Chris Lilley's favourite characters).

I'm surprised that anyone who liked his old stuff doesn't like this. It's basically the same with better production value.

Biased, but honest.

To the people complaining about his characters: I'd love to see how many characters you could come up with and act out as impressively as Chris Lilley.

I must admit it took me a couple of episodes to warm up to Smouse but by the time the final episode aired he was one of my favourites.

Chris Lilley is a genius and I wouldnt change any of his characters.

I'm glad you guys dont have a TV show.

You said it perfectly.

I really feel like Chris Lilley has let me down. He is so much better than this.

He's changed, man.

reply

Meganr....I really hope you're joking.

Do you really think he owes you anything because you liked one of his shows? What is he better than? Angy Boys is an awesome very funny show and its made me go back and watch all his previous stuff.

The guy is a genius, seriously.
