Hollywood? try again, this film is British! I wish people would stop insisting that every film that comes out is Hollywood!!!! I thought 'UK Film Council' in the intro credits would have been a tiny hint that this film isn't Hollywood.

The first one when he puts his hand on the glass had a huge dramatic effect. It didn't make any sense but it made my brain react to it. My body didn't react at all. I agree silly stuff particularly in this period piece where the whole thing was just a giant creep fest it didn't need any of those horror ploys.

I wish people would realise Hollywood is an area in Los Angeles and not an umbrella term for every film made on this planet.

Jump scares are a cliché but not necessarily bad. If it's done professionally it can be quite effective and give you a fright.
Though of course building an entire film around jump scares is cheap and redundant and becomes silly after a while.

That's not the case with this one. It had like 5 jump scares scenes. The rest was all about atmosphere. So what's the problem?

Most people can't appreciate films like this anymore. Most want gore, this is not that. Most people can't have a horror film without gore and lots of it. Personally I think films like this should be classified as something other horror. Most only associate horror with slash fests. Shame really.

You were scared just admit it. If not why say anything at all? It's of the thriller/horror genre; jump scares come with the territory. Silliest thing to complain about. People over the age of twelve can be scared by such things too. My girlfriend nearly fell out of her seat dozens of times watching this(she's 35).

Thanks for telling everyone what to like instead of letting people have their own opinion. As much as I don't want to contribute to this ridiculously stupid thread, I'll state that I enjoy jump scares as long as they aren't overdone. The tone and atmosphere of this movie was great and the jump scares were fine. It'd be different if that was all that they did.

Not many people can say the red face demon middle of the day jump scare in Insidious wasn't perfectly timed and used.

The only thing this movie was missing for me was not having enough background stuff. I love catching little things in the background that you gotta be quick to catch.

Anyway, enjoy letting unimportant things like this upset you and ruin movie for you. I'm good.

The OP is absolutely spot on. Enough with that nonsense. Work on building creeping dread! That is what scares an audience.
