sharetobey is a very good actor, above average...but not sure he fits the bobby fischer look. part of fischers mystique was his physical presence, tall with long arms and fingers snatching pieces...Nicholas Cage wouldve been perfectly cast.
shareDude, Tobey fits perfectly as Tobey Maguire, he looks young, he has similar hair, and a very similar face. Just because he may not be as tall, doesn't mean anything.
This movie will be great though.

Tobey Maguire would be good. Height? Come on, they even make Stallone look tall in movies! Heights no problem.
I say, if he's up for a serious role, Jim Parsons. He has the height, and the eccentricity for it.

I agree with uncgotti. Fischer's height intimidated many a grandmaster, as they themselves admitted, as did his walk. I'm old enough to have closely followed the 1972 title match and the march leading up to it, and I've never seen a Hollywood casting choice I think is worse than this one. Having Tobey Maguire play Fischer is no different to me than having Selena Gomez do it. This is a terrible, terrible casting choice. Ashton Kutcher might be able to pull it off, but not this clown. I grew up idolizing Fischer (and continued to do so until he turned into an anti-Semitic nutbag) and couldn't hate it more. I wish Maguire would just go back to ruining superhero movies and leave this one alone.
Fischer was 29 when he won the world championship. Cage is too old. He's 46.
I agree that Maguire is awfully short (5'8") to play a guy who was 6'2". Too bad Christopher Walken is 67. I think he has the presence you were talking about.
Maguire is nowhere near 5'8, he's at least 2 inches shorter.
