First reviews coming in, Maguire getting much praise for his performance
No surprise at all. He had many tremenderous performances in his career.
Eager to her more from it.

Agreed. I'm really looking forward to this one, especially since I'm a big fan of Tobey Maguire.
shareI saw it last night and was very impressed with all of the performances, specifically Maguire, Schreiber and Sarsgaard.
It isn't a documentary so the accuracy has been sacrificed for cinematic impact.
But it was a really interesting film considering nothing much happens. There are no car chases, no bombs, shootings or even fistfights. There isn't even much of a sex scene. Language is also pretty tame.
But it was still a riveting film and *I* knew the outcomes of some of the tensions because I remember reading about and seeing on the TV news of these events when I was young. (I'm 60.)
Maguire treads a very fine line showing the slow mental breakdown of a brilliant young adult, Schreiber's dialogue is almost entirely in Russian.
I'm not that familiar with Sarsgaard but I think he's mostly know for action hero sorts of roles. This is a big departure for him if that is true. He plays a priest who is also a chess master and serves as Fischer's handler. He does get to drink and smoke but he also plays chess both on boards and in his head with Fischer as part of Fischer's preparations. His role is quiet and reserved, observant and speculative. He was excellent and may come as quite a surprise for those only familiar with his shoot em up action hero films.

Easily the best performance of Maguire's career.
