Any nomination chances for Maguire?

BA is a weak field this year.

Weak field? Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Eddie Redmayne are probably shoe-ins.

I thought Maguire gave a horrible, cliched performance, so much to the point that it distracted from the story line. He did not capture the essence of the Bobby Fisher that I followed as a teenager. But since Maguire was the film's producer, I guess there was no chance of getting someone that may have done a better job.

Okay, but how did he play the character in the script. Forget the historical aspect, how did he play this character.

totally agree, if he even gets a nom, it will be shameful... this role could have been so much more

It opened a year ago in Toronto so it qualified for last year, and its minuscule box, it wouldn't have happened anyway--sad to say.

This film had very limited distribution and it appeared that originally it was intended to go largely direct to DVD. In fact, the original version have been available on DVD for quite some time. Now they seem to decide on a wider release in cinemas with another version, and this "theatrical version" is not yet on DVD but is advertised to be available later this year.

Based on these, I think this film has almost no chance for a nomination in any category.

reply

No, there are way to many better performances this year.
