OK....Season 7 is 2 months away. Can't wait. Other then waiting for Jamie and Eddie to finally get together, when does Jamie get his gold shield,or sergeant strips...? Also, would not mind seeing more on Renzulli, He is a underrated actor.
Jamie deserves to be promoted and I want Jamie/Janko to happen so badly, but at the same time I want him and Eddie to continue riding together. If they're still in the same precinct, it could never happen. I'd rather have them riding together than anything else at this stage. It depends on how long the show survives, but I absolutely want Jamie promoted and Eddie at Sunday dinner at least once (preferably the series final).
In season 1, episode 9 (I think!), prisoners are released due to a technicality and one of them involves a rapist/murderer whom Danny arrested. Erin is working the case to get him back in prison but near the end of the episode, the bad guy basically takes her hostage in her office. She was supposed to meet Frank for dinner but when she didn't show up, he went looking. He ended up shooting the perp and saving Erin from a brutal rape and murder. So he has technically been involved with at least one action scene.
I completely agree with Frank not "playing cop" though! Blue Bloods is one of the most realistic (if not the most) portrayed on TV
Yes, that was a great scene, but something has always bothered me about it. How do I put this? Frank's pointing of the the gun has always looked awkward to me. The gun seemed too small for Tom's big stature. Kind of like he needs a horse at least 16 hands to look the hero in a western, to me he needs at least a Colt 1911.45 to look authentic when pointing a handgun at someone in a scene.
If I'm remembering correctly, Henry said something in either season 1 or 2 about Frank's choice in guns. Frank said something along the lines that he's had that gun since he was working the beat and wasn't willing to retire it now. I can't remember what episode it was though although I'll let you know... (BTW, thank you for causing me to re-marathon the series again- 'New York, New York' is currently playing whilst Jamie graduates... Good times!)
He has so little use for a gun there's no need to carry anything larger on a regular basis.
I think he also mentioned at one point that he's had that since he was a beat cop. I think that used to be his backup weapon kept in his boot. Now its the only one he bothers to carry simply out of convenience.
Large guns get in the way of doing every day things and simply aren't needed most of the time.

That show was titled "Re-do" and you're right, it is Season One, episode 9. The creepy killer/rapist who goes after Erin (and gets shot in the forehead by Frank) was played by Toby Leonard Moore, an Australian actor. Damn, he was scary. Good job of acting.
He has not been that busy. I think their going more and more with Sid and Baker. I do like seeing some of old Soprano's actors on there though...I think if Jamie makes Sergeant, you will see more Renzulli..
Hello Aunt Wendy, Thanks for the reply. Don't mention series finally..I know Selleck is getting up therein age, but this is the best police drama on TV right now. Let's hope another 3 years at least. I also watch Chicago PD. Another top show, with actors who fit their parts as well.
But, like all NBC shows, they interlink them and it tends to make them harder to watch. CBS, does not link many of their shows..Here's looking forward to Sept...
The writers have written themselves into a corner with Jamie. He deserves to be promoted to detective, and after seven years, it's getting ridiculous that he isn't.
However, the show needs him to remain a beat cop so they can have a variety of stories. Danny gives them stories from a detective's point of view, and Jamie gives them cop-on-the-street stories. (While Frank gives them Commissioner stories.) It's a balance that makes the show more interesting.
I have to agree with you to a point. I do not think the writers are "in a corner". There are plenty of NYPD that have never become detectives but have remained patrolmen/sergeants etc.. for their entire careers.
I read an interview with showrunner Kevin Wade a few years ago where Jamie's future was mentioned. He said that his personal view was that Jamie didn't have the hard-boiled temperament to be a detective, but that he could see him in other roles that use his gifts - like undercover work.
the problem with Jamie as u/c, is that he is the Commish's son..as such, his father being a very major city who's who, he is too exposed.
Some crooks may actually watch the news and read the newspapers..surely his face has appeared beside or in connection with his father's , from time to time.
and erm, double-jackpot...also a DA's sister.
and Nikki for a niece! We all know Nikki has a stadium loudspeaker for a mouth!
You would love to be deep undercover with Colombian/Russian/Armenian Cartel, with all that going for you, right? Hope you like the taste of the mud in the Hudson.
I truly agree with you. The next 2 years will decide what type of series this will turn out to be. One of the top 3, Homicide and NYPD Blue, like those NCIS series...?
Yes, yes!! I would think most fans would hope that Jamie deserved a promotion by now. He can be promoted and still be on the street though, right? Sgt. Renzuli was, as Jamie's partner. So can't THAT happen and we get the best of both worlds? If I sound dense, I'm sorry, but I don't know the inner workings of a PD.
Yes. Promoting Jamie to Sergeant would work very well. It would give him a promotion that he should have had years ago, and would still be a beat cop on the street. I would love to see Jamie have more responsibility and have to deal with personnel issues, like solving disputes between officers at his precinct. It could also lead to some great one on one conversations between Jamie and Frank about disputes and how do you effectively manage/motivate the people under you in the chain of command.

problem with Frank in that regard, is that it seems to be the people under him in chain of command who manage/motivate him.

I feel really stupid right now. I thought sergeant was the rank below detective, not the rank above detective. Is there any way for Jamie to have a promotion, but still be patrolling at street level?

I agree that Jamie needs to be promoted but not to detective as he likes being on the street. He definitely deserves his sargent's chevrons. But he should NOT ever hook up with eddie. That awkward kiss from a few seasons back was bad & doesn't need to be repeated. She is obnoxious as hell & he can do way better than her. Besides she's looking to jump ship & get her shield. I'd personally like to see her shot & written off of the show. She's never been appealing to me since day one.
OMG if they killed off Nikki, the Reagans will never cease with all their constant recollections like they do over Joe's death. After awhile it becomes morbid. Janko simply needs to find another love interest.
They certainly can't kill her off. Jamie's already lost a partner while on duty; if the writers do that again they should all be shot with stinky fish-smelling bean-bag bullets.
Slackermom; I can honestly say I have never heard of a "fish-smelling" bullet. That gave me a good laugh. :P
I've about given up the writers. They come up with some of the worst scenarios. I know they have a technical advisor, but after 21 yrs in LE I am having a hard time watching the antics (mostly Danny) that most cops would be fired over.
I can honestly say I have never heard of a "fish-smelling" bullet.
Haha, well, I don't want anyone to be shot in the normal sense, but if I want to hurt someone, in more ways than one, stinky paint ball-type ammo seems to be the answer.
And yeah, there really aren't ANY television shows that are truly, anywhere-close-to-100% realistic; if there were, they'd be as boring as watching grass grow. In fact, in one episode of Blue Bloods, Frank even mentions how uncommon it is for an NYPD cop to ever fire his weapon while on duty (less than 5%, or even lower), and yet Danny does it every week, sometimes twice a week. So yeah, just about every show has to use creative license for the sake of entertainment. (I still chuckle at how many people now believe that crime-scene investigators interview witnesses and suspects, carry guns, and shoot people. )

ROFLMBO @ "stink paint ball-type ammo" I will have to check into that. You are too funny.
I understand the artistic license aspect, but good grief....could we be somewhat a tad more realistic? Your right, most cops rarely shoot their weapons on duty. I have had to shoot perps on more than one occasion, but I also worked in hard core ghetto areas. I also carried 2 guns...1 in a shoulder holster and 1 on my belt.
I guess what pizzes (in addition to his bullying) me off about Danny is his shown stupidity of going into a hot situation without backup. I have NEVER known any detective to answer a hot call without backup. Viewers actually believe that cops do that s**t. That can be suicide. Plus half the time he doesn't wear his vest. Idiot!
Btw: Quite a few forensic people do wear guns, but I've never known them to use them. They are also sworn peace officers in most larger depts. now. Actual 'investigators' are required to wear a dept. issued weapon.
Rowdy, Since it appears you're an officer I have a question about something that bugs me in most cop show, including this one.
Danny goes to question or arrest someone and calls out to the bad guy from across the room or across the street, giving the bad guy ample time to try and run away. Shouldn't the officer walk up to the bad guy just like any other pedestrian in the street and then just control the guy? Of course that would not be as exciting but it makes an awful lot more sense! I've always wondered how real cops would do it.
Laurie; Real cops don't shout out warnings That is pure theatrics. His chase scenes annoy the living crap out of me. It not only endangers the officer, it endangers other people. I have been recognized by some criminals and a perp will try to rabbit when they see me. That comes from working a certain district/area like I did for years. Btw: I am retired....thank the good Lord. Oh wait, my fiance said she wouldn't marry me until I retired. :)
I think they have to keep a family member as a beat cop, but Jamie deserves a promotion. If the show lasts a few more years they might be able to: 1. Make Jamie a sargeant and keep him on the street, or 2. Nikki graduates with a degree related to law but opts to go to the academy, much to the disgust or her mom. This would free up Jamie to become a detective and possibly work undercover. Maybe he learns all about disguises and becomes the next Serpico.
Laurie; I agree about the beat cop thing. Being an NYPD officer seems to be the family business.
As for Jamie becoming a Serpico type? I don't see it. He doesn't display the personality for the hard core undercover units. I would like to see his character become a little tougher. I agree, making him a Sgt. would be a good change.
I am still hoping his old fiance comes back. I really liked her from what little we saw of her. She sure didn't take any BS from Danny. If Nikki becomes a cop, we will NEVER stop hearing Erin whine.
Let Jamie get promoted to Sgt and stay on the street supervising new beat cops. Let Janko get her gold shield and become Danny's new partner.
I love this idea. I really want to see Jamie in a supervisory position/capacity. It would be great to see him go to Frank and Henry for advice. It allows Jamie and Janko to see if they share more than just the job. If they weren't around each other at work, would they still want to be together?
I'm not sure if I'd want Janko and Danny to be partners for the rest of the series, or even a season. However, if Baez went on vacation or had some type of temporary assignment, it would be fun to see Danny and Janko together for a few episodes. I would love to hear the conversations they would have about Jamie.

No thanks to Jamie and Edie. But a promotion is about time. Most of the episodes what he does is less police work and more social work. He should get promoted, and maybe do more UC work.
One day in the year of the fox came a time remembered well...
