I'm real tired of this "It's for kids" argument

I know someone made a topic on here that said, "Critics don't realize it's for kids", but I'm here to make one of the exact opposite. Just because something is for children, that doesn't mean it needs to be hollow and dumbed down. Pixar makes movies like Up and Inside Out. Dreamworks makes movies like the Kungfu Panda series that have silly humor but also serious themes. Disney has movies upcoming movies like Zootopia and Moana. But when we get dumbed down crap like Norm of the North, it only makes people go back to the mindset that "animation is just for kids". There's no excuse for releasing such crap in theaters, and it should have gone straight to DVD like originally intended. Just because it's for kids, doesn't mean the movie needs to treat the audience like an idiot.

Exactly. Why do people act like they don't know what a good movie is? It's not like kids aren't able to critique themselves. Sure some kids might like this movie, but there are also kids who won't.

Granted, I have not seen it... but the trailer was abysmal enough to make me think "Stay. The hell. Away."

Same here. Also, I have heard from some reviewers that even kids in theaters wanted to go home. lol, it just shows how much of a flop the movie is.

^^^ THIS! I'm a huge animation fan, and I get really insulted when someone tries to tell me animation is "just for kids". Just look at Felidae or Akira for example.

Hell, even animated movies made for kids can have substance too. Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, Don Bluth, and Hayao Miyazaki have all made animated films marketed towards children, and are STILL loved by adults today for a good reason. The reason so many parents and critics hate Norm of the North, is because it's boring and it talks down to their children. Rob Schneider isn't funny, and he can't act his way out of a paper bag.

Some of the best movies ever done were animated. The Shrek movies are fantastic. Frozen was outstanding. The Princess and the Frog was stellar (my own personal favorite). Many Pixar and Dreamworks productions throughout the 2000s have been unforgettable. Not to mention all the classic Disney hits of the 90s. All very well done in my opinion. It's down right ignorant to make an excuse for a poor movie based on the fact that it's "for kids". The idea that only a certain age group can enjoy an animated movie is beyond silly.

All it does is encourage more mass production of JUNK like this. It'd be different if this had been a straight to DVD budget film. But the fact that it played in theaters and was promoted as a major film is a complete insult to the average movie-goer. I'd be furious had I spent anything more than $1.50 it cost me to rent this mediocre crap.
