Confused - Lou missed Morgot - Where did she go?

Throughout the beginning of the movie, Lou mentioned a few times and Margot alluded to being missed and being gone. I kept waiting for the time when I was going to be told where Margot was and why she was so insecure about intimacy? Was she raped and needed to leave Lou for a while? Was she in rehab? Did Lou cheat on her and she left then came back? Did they separate for some other reason and then she came back?

I knew she had been gone a bit to write the Park Review but it couldnt have been that long (weekend maybe) and it wouldnt explain her insecurities and why she was so missed?

Did anyone else feel/thank that way?

There was a subtle withdrawal as she felt "the gap"--that something was missing. The script suggests an emptiness in their conversations. A Jungian idea that people inevitably feel a yearning for something more. Their intimacy was satisfactory. Her new intimacy became old, and Daniel began a subtle withdrawal. But Lou said he couldn't take her back because the trust was broken.
