i realize there are all these signs, but Jeff acts like hes schizophrenic. Or was this mentioned? He dresses slobbish, he sees signs and says hes meant "i was supposed to have a meeting with the kevins and see my destiny". then hes decoding this callers name "kevin". he acts paranoid. etc. i am not saying he IS Schizophrenic or even mental but his behavior is a lot like it; delusional and was wondering did anyone else notice?
And are the two supposed be alike? Please, don't hate on pot... Jeff was being adolescent, funny even, and the pot enhanced that. There are actual schizophrenics out there who needn't be used as means of offending someone.
I very well do. Part of that disorder is grandiose beliefs, so it'd be right on - "Everything in the universe connects somehow" - example not from the movie, though. BUT considering this is just a movie, i'm sure they weren't going for that and yea he was just a pothead.
in this movie universe or whatever you want to call it, things do happen for a 'reason'. remember the name of the man jeff saved was named kevin, the person he was searching for all day long.
Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?
psychology is a very 'gentle' subject. unless a person holds a degree, i cant see him as qualified for diagnoses. but i do agree he has some condition and he should probably go to a therapist or maybe even psychiatrist.
BTW grandiose beliefs is a condition where a person see him better than everyone else. it is very likely Hitler, Stalin, Genghis-Khan and other conquerors had that.
I don't think he has schizophrenia. I think it was a mixture of his smoking pot and desperation for life meaning. When you really have no direction about where your life is going, you start to look at little clues and signs for a search of an answer. Don't we all do this at some point? His thought process may be more extreme than others (and maybe the drug use constributes to this), but maybe he desperately wanted some sort of answer. Even me, at 29 still has some 'magically thinking.' I even ask sometime, aloud, for some sort of sign to come to me in a dream as to what direction I should pursue in my search for happiness, a job, etc. When you are frustrated and at the 'very bottom' desperation will seep in.
"Perhaps we can learn a lesson from this tragedy like don't steal and don't be disturbed."
Laurann83 said it perfectly. I couldn't agree more! +1 great answer could not agree more. you have a great way of thinking and we more great people on earth that think like you :)
Come on, he was not schizophrenic. He was just a depressed guy who was trying to latch on to small things by thinking of them as signs.
He was mainly an optimistic guy (at times too much) who sub-conscious was trying to find reason in small little signs to get out of that depression or mind set after the death of his father.
Do you even know what schizophrenia means? He might have been a little delusional and a bit out there, but he was pretty much the same person through out the film. I didn't see any signs of him having multiple personalities.
you clearly don't know what schizophrenia means if you think it has something to do with multiple personalities. that would be dissociative identity disorder.
I thought of the Russell Crowe's character in a Beautiful Mind seeing hidden signs and messages everywhere except Jeff wasn't academically driven/brilliant.
He wasn't any more delusional than a devout religious person. It was more that he was immature, and wanted to believe that everything was connected in some beautiful way, that he was an integral part of.
