Kind of reminds me of believe it or not KING KONG (especially 2005)

This movie actually reminds me of King Kong, especially the 2005 version. I know that sounds odd since a zombie is nothing like a giant gorilla but the story is similar in it's literary devices. King Kong fell in love with a human woman and had no qualms about killing OTHER people but made sure to protect her.

Well this zombie guy fell in love with that girl and would not hurt her in fact he protected her but he had no qualms about killing OTHER people (though that did change later).

It would be interesting to try that motif with other horror monsters. For example maybe a vampire movie where a vampire falls in love with a human woman and even though he kills others all the time for their blood he makes sure never to harm the woman he loves.
