could someone fail a qualifier then try again at a different city?

Like if someone that tries in the first city decides to try again in the fourth or fifth city, would they allow that?

Just because you are too stupid to understand it, it does not mean that it is a plot hole

In the Japanese one you can't really do that. You screw up, it's a year's wait, no negotiations.

I don't know the answer to that.

How many get invites and how many walkons do they take?
I recall watching someone's backstory - the guy had failed in Kansas City or something and then his wife or girlfriend told him, "You're going to Pittsburgh." I don't remember if that meant he waited in the walkon line and didn't get picked or he failed the course in Kansas City.

I would think you would definitely not get a second invite if you failed. Possibly you could get a walkon - not sure about that.

I really wish they would provide this information.

The Japanese show doesn't have qualifiers, that is why they have so many joke contestants.

But the answer is no. These competitions are not as open as they would seem, where anyone can just show up and run.

Japan does it twice a year I think

I don't think so, as I have never seen it happen.

The first year you probably could have. Now, there are so many people it would not happen even if no rule prevented it.
