How does the walk on work?

I would assume that there is a certain number of spots and they give them to people in order they arrived until they are filled up...but it doesn't seem like that is how it works. Am I wrong?

One guy they mentioned "waited in the walk on lines twice, but didn't get picked." but that he got picked this year, but they didn't elaborate what the difference was. Another guy "waited in line for weeks" and didn't get picked. How could that be? How many people really were ahead of him waiting for weeks? That is what makes me think it is not chosen by order.

Then in another episode they showed the walk on line and it only had like ten to fifteen people in it. I don't get it.

*Here's a ****in' spoiler: Everybody dies.*

I've read online on a few different websites that they only allow around 30 Walk-ins in every city qualifier. I have no idea if it's the first 30 people in line or if the first 30 people with a sob story

I hope they give the ballet dancer another shot; he is gorgeous. Plus, he got slammed really hard - I'm surprised he didn't break a few ribs.

I am sure you get in the walk on line and if you have some disease or your kid does or your dad does or your friend does and even though you can barely do a pull up or hang for more than 30 seconds from a rope you will get on the show so they can spend 3 minutes talking about your great story and then we can watch you fall on the second obstacle knowing that you have zero chance of finishing.
