what happened to brett?

This is so disappointing. I've been watching for years. Back when they had ninja boot camps and brett was always so good. He looked very comfortable. But for the last 2-3 years he always looks like he is struggling, and he usually goes out early. I started to think that maybe he just doesn't train as much but doesn't he own a ninja gym? Same for his now ex-girlfriend. I think it's mostly nerves with her though.

I think it's all the elements that go into that particular race. Maybe they didn't sleep well enough the night before, they are too nervous or too confident, rushing, thinking ahead instead of being present in the current obstacle.

I think both he and Kacy have been hyped too much so that may play a role, too. The pressure may be getting to them to deliver.

reply

Yeah the course definitely matters. Especially for kacy because she is so short. Some courses are easier for certain people and i'm sure the hype is hurting them both. But back when brett was really good, it didn't seem like it mattered what course he had. He would run through them pretty smoothly. Some of the obstacles that he struggles on now he has done many of times before. Just looking at his face you can tell he is having a hard time and it makes no sense. I hate seeing people that have such great potential fail. Unless they're douchebags like The Weatherman's cousin.

reply

TP! Good to see you here. Maybe if they weren't so busy carting Kacy around to every city every week to "cheer on her fellow competitors" *cough cough* hog screen time *cough cough* they would have been better focused on the course at hand. I am so over both of them.

Their problem is the courses get tougher each year and their capabilities can't keep up.

reply

I don't think that is a good excuse. A lot of the obstacles he goes out on, he has done before. And there are rookies that haven't done it before and make it through pretty easily. As someone who owns a gym centered around the course, he should constantly push himself and his course to prepare him for the changes. I mean, maybe he just let his failures and the pressure get to him and he just can't handle it.

reply

I do think he just had a mental error tonight on the bar hop, and he'll most likely make it to Vegas, but I still think he's kind of peaked a bit. I don't see him going very far, especially since Caldiero and Britten completed the course last year, the courses will inevitably be tougher this year.

Kacy on the other hand has no chance, her talent just can't measure up any more to the difficulty of the courses now.

reply

He's definitely going to Vegas. He went far enough fast enough

reply

Not Vegas yet.

He will be in the city finals.

What am I gonna do... with a gun rack?

reply

I think the primary reason is he is not in as good of shape as he was in the past. He ranked 22nd in this qualifying round, and I would say that is about appropriate for where he is right now. I am not sure how much time he has to train up for the next round. However, if nothing changes, I think he will get buried in the next round and can only make Vegas on the Wildcard, which is also Kaci's only hope also.

Does anyone know how much time elapses between the city qualifier and the city final? From the production stand-point, it would make sense to film the finals immediatley after they are there for the qualifier.

reply

On the Wikipedia page it looks like the finals are the very next evening after the qualifier. Makes sense, but it doesn't give them much time to make improvements to their game. I have a feeling Brent will go out on the second half of the course during finals.

Sure. Fine. Whatever 

reply

Agreed. I think he'll overcompensate in an attempt to get back to what he once was but will make a stupid mental error and splat into the water again.

reply

but it doesn't give them much time to make improvements to their game

I think that's a good thing. Otherwise, the people who train hardcore (gym owners, backyard course-builders, etc) would have an advantage over the "regular" people.

reply

Brent fell during qualifying last year as well but made it far and fast enough to do city final and still made it to Vegas. Sam Sann fell early too. Kacy just tripped up on the logs. She's still strong enough in the upper body but those tricky logs.

reply

Maybe because Kacey dumped him. I wasn't surprised she failed either. She looked pretty soft compared to previous seasons.

reply

Sometimes you gotta be hungry for it.
