I really enjoyed this show

Mo is a likeable character and the writing was done well enough to make you cringe at things he does but also root for him throughout the show. The show is simple and to the point. The episodes don't drag on and the show felt like it was always moving forward with things happening each episode. We binged in a couple days as it was easy to sit down and enjoy. Definitely a good mix of humor/chuckles, some good personal relationship drama/scenarios, and just overall felt like a really well rounded show.

IMDB rating is high, but reviews are all over the place, with what looks like review bombing from people who feel he did not represent the religion well enough. Strange, because it was clear the show was showing someone who was tied & drawn to different cultures and places and was torn in practicing the old yet trying to fit in with the new.

As of now, looking around, I didn't see anything to confirm it will get a second season and it's possibly on the chopping block from Netflix from what little I did read. We'll see what the next few months hold in that regard but I'll hold for hope that it gets at least a second season and they can write a conclusion.

I still think it's worth the watch as it stands. Give it a try.

It’s a clever, well written show and Amer is clearly capable of carrying it. Some of the stories took some wildly contrived turns and there’s a lot of gratuitous and shallow caricatures of white people and excessive doses of Islamic religiosity. Just when I think the show has gone too far in those directions, it again turns self-deprecating and funny or pulls the viewer back with one of the intriguing interpersonal relationships. I think your description from two years ago is very accurate. I watched all of season 1 and found it overall entertaining. Amer’s character reminds me a lot of the popular Kevin James King of Queens sitcom character. I saw the show got a second season but I’m on the fence about investing more time.
