Seriously, didn't anyone in this family have a job?

I know it's just a movie (and not a very good movie at that) but come on! The son openly admits early on to being unemployed and the mom and the sister are always hanging out around the house, night and day. To afford a house that nice wouldn't at least one of them have to work?

Or was it that maybe they were rich and didn't have to? Or did the dad leave a huge insurance policy behind when he died?

Any theories?

Seriously!

Hello? Two weeks and nothing?

Anyone?

I was thinking the same thing in the beginning. I thought maybe the son and daughter could be students. But nooo. Everyone just hanged out at the house all day. At least in PA they had jobs.

Come on! Wasn't anyone else bothered by this? I know there were plenty of other things wrong with this crappy movie, but something about this in particular really irked me.

Was it just bad writing, or did I miss something?

Courtesy bump?

lol i agree. i couldnt even work out how old the sister was supposed to be xD
she looked late 20's but they were acting like she was a teenager. even so why wasnt she at school haha.
she really annoyed me.
maybe they are living off the money the dad made? lol

I don't think it bothered me because, with the exception of a few scenes in the beginning, most of it took place in the middle of the night. The mother could have easily worked during the day and we never saw it. But I take your point.

Didnt anyone find the lack of windows strange?
I only saw 2 in the entire house

I thought the mom had a job, I thought maybe we just didn't see that time period.
It did seem awfully odd, I wondered about it too.

Someone suggested the possibility of life insurance. That's actually a very plausible theory, as he did die in an accident.
He could have had a huge policy.

I'm saying HUGE insurance policy or somebody's a trust fund baby. But than a lot of scenes were just cut abruptly. We'd skip from one scene to the next. Maybe the Mum worked. Maybe. But you know it was not recorded, because well... it's not terribly exciting or really relevant to the story. But it does seem in all likelihood, whilst they missed Daddy they could have certainly benefited from his death financially.

I just assumed the mother was an alcoholic stripper
The daughter was a crack whore who dropped out of school
And the son was an unemployed loser who swears he's going to get his act together soon.

Strippers make money, sure...but not enough to feed their own alcohol addiction, their daughter's drug addiction AND pay for a week's worth of groceries for her son to eat in 2 days.

So you're absolutely right, it doesn't add up at all!

No one having a job was the least of this movies problems. I totally buy the insurance policy theory. He had died one year earlier if he had a million dollar policy plus money saved up, which they sure could have since they didn't eat much or spend money on furnishings, clothing, or a car apparently, they would have had plenty of money if the dad worked and if anyone else had been working prior to the dad's death. I don't think it's entirely unlikely they went from a two, three, or four income family down to a family living on savings and life insurance. Who knows what the toll of grief was in this family. It seemed to take on the form of the family being possessed, murderous, and suicidal. So, holding down a job under those conditions would have been difficult at best.

I was beginning to believe YOU don't have a job since you kept checking back to see if you had any replies to your post.
