It's an Asylum film. That should be enough of an answer right there. However, it's actually a pretty decent Asylum film, though that me be because I just like these kinds of movies and all it takes is a little bit of restraint to make a good one.

In a way it is. But its not trying to 'be' Paranormal Activity, its more like a 'semi-authorized spinoff'.
I quite liked this film, it was much better than I had thought. It scared me silly in many scenes, and while I disliked the ending (I didn't care for PA's ending either actually) I would recommend this movie.

You mean, why is the rating low?
Probably because many people didn't appreciate the film, they just saw it as a ripoff of "PA" which it wasn't actually.
The storyline is not the same, nor is the ending. This film does have a couple glaring plot holes, but I still enjoyed it. There is more 'action' than in "PA" as well.
