How did it 'add up'?

Maybe I am slow/tired right now...but how did all this to add up?
I was a bit confused with the "messages" in the beginning and end of the movie (felt a bit contradictory)...and thus in which order everybody died.

Is this interpretation correct?

- Thomas is found with his dead sister in his arms, and a dead psychic in the house.
- Thomas get arrested
- Thomas commit suicide in prison
- The mother learns of this and kills herself

So the 911-call where Thomas babbles about the mother beeing killed did not happen? She killed herself AFTER he committed suicide?

reply

Yeah I was really confused by this too. It seemed like at the end it was saying that Thomas and Sam were both dead and then the mother killed herself, which is completely contradictory of what the beginning said. It seems like a really sloppy goof.

reply

Didn't he say, "It killed them." Meaning the sister and the psychic?

reply

I also found this rather annoying and conflicting. Made me shake my head. A lto of the movie did that lol

This film was made up as they went along. The whole crap about the father had nothing to do with anything, Maron had nothing to do with anything and the end where the mother 'killed herself' completely contradicted the beginning. Anyone who says this is better than PA either worked on the film or is an fool

and why would they just happen to find the video tapes a whole year later? when there were cameras everywhere in the house? wouldn't they want to use the tapes during the murder trial?

I kept thinking it would get better. But it didn't. Acting wasn't bad, but the writing sucked.

The fail rip off was just too damn sloppy.

And can I just add how god damn hideous the inside of their home was?
Instead of giving a damn about a potential demon terrorizing this dull family, I was more concerned over the forced rustic atmosphere.

You know how bad a movie is when I start caring about the background furniture?
It's sad.

I think the phone call where he says "It killed my mom" was just him being hysteric, referencing the fact she tried to kill herself and nearly succeeded.

I agree with Reaper941. At first I thought it a film goof, but maybe its not.

Essentially, his mother was 'dead'. She'd nearly killed herself, plus her spirit was dead by this time.

I don't buy it. Considering the panic of the phone call I don't buy that he switched between the literal meaning of "dead" referring to his sister to a metaphorical "dead" in reference to his mother. Not even a little bit.

reply

I don't buy it either. He tells the psychic that his mom is going to be all right, then he decides she is really "dead"? That makes even less sense than her being dead, then committing suicide.
