Um, didn't the family have friends or family?

Cause no one showed up, no one called, even when they left the house, they had to go to a motel?

They couldn't call a friend or relative?

Crappy writing. Much like the fact that none of these losers seemed to ever go to work. In terms of personality, all these people had were names.

My friend mentioned this when we were watching it last night. They just sat around all day not doing anything. Not even watching TV.

I know Kung Fu.

I thought about that too. The only thing I could think of is that he only video tapes when they are at home. You hear the mom on the phone say "...when I see you tomorrow.", however it is not shown. I was disappointed though at how they would run around in the dark-not even turning on the lights! They also never ran outside! Alive or in spirit: I am running outside from anything that should not be present in my house, especially if it's trying to kill me! When they were in the "zombie-like" state it seemed more real...like an unknown force was driving them to stay. I liked the idea of the mom writing back and forth to the spirit-thinking it was her husband. Now, it would have been good if the demonic entity was actually the spirit of a girl who the father had raped and was haunting the sister to get revenge. Then the name written could have been discovered and the past revealed. The mother would have killed herself when finding out about her husband and the ending would still be the same, only without the lame excuse given about what was haunting them. Plus, why did the brother pick up the camera when his sister was being murdered!?! Didn't he have a camera set up in her room anyway. I never saw PA because I heard it was slow, but I am now, so I can compare the two. It's sad, but this movie had the opportunity to be a hit, but fell short in the plot. Hopefully, although slow PA will deliver on a better story line.

I'm from the 80's...that's where they made me at.

I agree 100%. It seemed to me that the videos were never made during the day, other than the breakfast scene we see once.
And the brother said he WAS employed, but wasn't as of that day. The mom did indeed talk to someone on the phone, implying she was talking to a coworker.
Their jobs were not inherent to the story, but I will say a little more backstory might have been interesting.

I will say I really liked this movie. I liked it more on subsequent viewings.
I did not care for the rushed ending however. But in all, a much better film than I was expecting from an 'authorized PA ripoff'.
There was a lot more 'activity' in this one, and it still scares me when I watch it, especially the scenes where the demon calls them & also when it mimics his sister's voice calling Thomas. Creepy.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

The "mimic" voice is actually from the real Sam early on.

The demon had the advantage, Sam should have just accepted she was going to get alot of notrealsex to it got bored.
