Why didn't Joseph Gordon Levitt return as cobra commander

And how does it makes sense it's not the same character but it is Rex Lewis when this is the same franchise

reply

Joseph has done a lot of big films since RISE OF COBRA. He's probably moved on.

And what do you mean it's not the same character? It's still Rex/Cobra Commander from RISE.

The director said that

Maybe he meant he's a different kind of Cobra Commander now. Like how Daniel Craig's Bond is different than Pierce Brosnan's.

You think he'd play a completely masked character now? Not a chance.

Aren't you relieved to know you're not a golem?

moved on? thats a jerk move to abandon the team they worked with before. I dont think he comes off as a jerk, maybe it was a scheduling conflict?

START THE REVOLUTION! SHRED THE GOVERNMENT! My favorite movie is V for Vendetta.

Well maybe if he comes back for part 3 we'll know. But I doubt they would even bother asking him anyway.

This movie ignores the first one. It's a soft reboot.

If that were true then why is Zartan disguised as the POTUS?

key word: SOFT reboot, incorporating elements in the first movie people actually liked and ignoring the elements that people didn't like.

He was too busy making Don Jon. Honestly, which would you rather do? Make another Joe movie, or bang Scarlett Johansson.

Both at the same time!

Game Over!

What are guys talking about....Freaking Cobra Commander is in the movie for mere minutes. it would be generous to say he has 10 minutes of screen time.

JGL has had 5 years to get his name known. Studios are not going to pay for a big named actor to reprise his role when he doesn't even show his face. Could have been the guy who played Esqueleto in Nacho Libre, you'd never know.

Besides, he's clearly made some decent career choices in the last 5 years and I'm sure he could smell the #$@! stains on the script and passed.

Have you not watched many movies :D

John Chu is on record as saying it's still Rex Lewis, just Rex Lewis played by someone else. And so for the "why" of that, probably a mixture of budgetary reasons (I.E, JGL got more expensive), promotional reasons (I.E, Cobra Commander stays masked through the whole damned picture, making it hard to use JGL to promote the flick), and story reasons (I.E, Duke's dead meaning there's not much reason to reference Rex Lewis and Cobra Commander is more of a shadowy chessmaster than a lead-from-the-front guy).

Maybe he read the *beep* script and gave it a hard pass. But really, he blew up in the time between this and the first movie, and had bigger (and much better) things to do.
