I don't expect a great film,the first one was not a great film,but is this really really bad or what?

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I mean, the action scenes are great and it's certainly an entertaining film, but the story is a complete mess and the acting isn't particularly great. If you didn't the dig the first one, I doubt you will dig this one. I don't know, maybe if you go into it expecting something mediocre, you'll have a decent time with it.

sharePerhaps we did expect more than we should have, but my problem with this movie in particular is the story. There's so many continuity errors and retcons from the first one that it just leaves the story a mess. Not to mention, Duke, along with other main Joes from the first movie were killed off toward the beginning without a thought. Or at least, we were led to believe so. I think that warrants a bit of frustration and disappointment. It's still a great action film, though. The action is what kept me from hating it. It was extremely entertaining to watch. Even still, movies aren't just about action all the time.

share^ I completely agree with this. As a fan of the toys growing up, this movie doesn't disappoint. It's a big-budget live-action Saturday-morning-cartoon of a film.
Lots of fun action, fun dialogue, big guns, cool vehicles, and neat gadgets.
But if you need stellar acting, spot-on cinematography, or logical narrative structure in your cinematic endeavors, skip this one.
Like the first one, it's basically a dumb fun movie, but probably forgettable popcorn movie.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say I was hoping this was gonna be great. Upon watching it, I feel that it's as embassassingly incoherent as the first film.

It seems that if you liked the first one, you hated this one. If you hated the first one, then you might have liked this one.
Personally, expecting crap the first time, I was pleasantly surprised and dug the first one.
Yes, that means I was looking forward to this one, and utterly shocked when they decided to basically sever all ties to the first one and go in a completely different direction.
This one has its moments - Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow, a more ominous Cobra Commander, and some good lines- but I definitely think the first one was the better movie.
Both of them are entertaining enough for one viewing.
