The finale
All I can say is what the h*** happened?
I've been enjoying this season. It was rather good up until the last couple episodes. The main issue I had with the finale (besides the sound effects, anyone else have that problem?) was the destruction of Carol and Helen's relationship. Helen Basch was introduced as a level-headed professional, the complete opposite of Merc and Castor. Her psychotic behavior just came out of nowhere. I enjoyed seeing Carol in a healthy, happy relationship. Then the writers completely ruined the Helen character by making her a stalker/nutcase (that strip scene on the trail was just disgusting to watch). And now Sean and Beverly are back in a 'Pucks' situation again. It's all been done before. Before all this psycho Helen stuff came about, I was expecting Sean and Beverly to ask Matt to read for a part on their show, Matt be upset about it and then maybe suck it up and audition and surprise them with his talent and win the part on the show. I really just thought all the main characters (Carol, Matt, Sean and Beverly)really needed a win and that was the natural conclusion I imagined in my head. There can still be conflict and comedy even without kicking all the characters while they're down. If there is a season 5, I would have been more excited for it had all the Helen and Carol mess not happened and there was some hope for the characters future. The entire last season could have been whether or not Sean and Beverly's new show would succeed or fail. Now it looks like it's destined to fail unless Helen is written out as soon as possible. If the show does the same old thing, it will just be more jokes about the network screwing up their show until the show gets cancelled and Sean and Beverly move back to England. No surprises and boring.
Not to get all Comic Book Guy but that finale was the worst episode of Episodes ever in my opinion. I almost decided to stop watching but I'm too invested now. I hope Season 5 gets back on the right track because that finale was absolutely terrible. I was surprised since this show has been consistently funny since day 1 and I enjoy the entire cast and normally the writing but this will be a 'jump the shark' episode for sure if the show doesn't right itself next season.
