Does Chris Evans Have Range?
Not trying to troll. I just can't think of anything, off the top of my head, that he's been in that would be considered a challenging role. Can anyone give any examples?

shareI don't think his range extends very far, but there are far worse actors. Many people site his performances in Sunshine and London as showing his range compared to his comedic roles, but I don't find acting mostly like arrogant jerks to be challenging roles. His comedic timing seemed decent in Not Another Teen Movie and The Losers, which are the type of roles he may be better suited for. I thought he was passable in the beginning of Captain America, but he fell flat as a leader of men in the superhero role. His acting and line delivery in Push was terrible, and he was forgettable in Street Kings. Based on the Puncture trailer, his acting seems unintentionally laughable. Basically, I think his acting is hit and miss, and I find it hard to take him seriously in dramatic roles.
shareWhat do you consider challenging roles??????? With that said, ignore the troll below, he's great in Sunshine and Street Kings, and he steals the show in all of his other movies. And there is a saying in acting, everyone can cry, not everyone can make you laugh, it takes a special talent to be comical.
PUNK ASS DECEPTICONS
this movie
sharehe actually purdy decent here. totally entertainin...
but i think he alredy proved himself in cap am. dat wuz a role dat required total humility (which is opp is personality) and i totally bought it
I live, I love, I slay, and I'm content
He actually caught my eye in Sunshine, so I'd say he definitely managed to stand out there. And truthfully, in everything I've seen him in since, good and bad, he's usually been the stand out performance regardless.
And if I ever had a doubt (I didn't), Puncture has just closed the deal for me. I just watched it online (sorry producers, etc., but it didn't have any showings here and I am too impatient for the DVD/Blu-Ray- which I will probably purchase though!) and Chris was PHENOMENAL. The movie over all was pretty good, but his performance was amazing.
For those who want to write him off as another pretty face, I suggest you track down a copy of this movie and check it out. You'll change your mind.
i loved this movie, liked Chris Evans in it, but he just basically played textbook Chris Evans after everything else i've seen him in. i could describe the movie Sunshine exactly the same. i thought I hated him, but it was probably just crappy movies lol
would be nice to see him get roles to prove me wrong
So you're saying his performances in Captain America, Puncture and Sunshine were identical? Seriously, that's ridiculous.
sharei don't think that just cuz the roles were so different means he has range. i don't think he was bad he just didn't do anything too spectacular to make me think many other people wouldn't do it any better. but it's not really his fault i guess because outside of being a drug addict and having CGI make him look half his actual weight the writing hasn't called for much more than some random typical guy
shareNo the roles being different doesn't mean he has range. The fact that he did a good job in each of them (despite so-so movies, even the critics tend to call him the "standout performance") is what means he has range.
shareWith a body like his, who needs range? Just cast him in everything and have him spend a lot of his on-screen time topless. Thank you, Hollywood.
P.S. Another, less tragic, more romantic Brokeback Mountain with Evans and Brandon Routh would be great. K? Thx.
Whoever is saying that Chris Evans doesn't have "range" hasn't seen him in Puncture. He did an outstanding job playing lawyer and drug addict Mike Weiss, and looked awesome doing it. ;)
Chris Evans taking on this role in Puncture is definitely considered a challenging role! The movie still shows Chris Evans as a superhero in the real world, in the legal and medical world. He becomes a modern day hero, a man battling his own personal demons as well as the purchasing cartel mafia. Yeah, he may be still playing the similar heroic roles, but what makes this role in Puncture as Mike Weiss, he because he has to take on two personas in this role I believe Chris Evans proves himself as an actor. Needless to say this movie looks very promising to me to me and I look forward to watching it on BluRay.

I don't think he has the range to pull off any role, but he's effective in this film as well as Captain America, London (another druggie who can talk you into anything), and humorous characters like in the Losers. I have been most impressed with Captain America. He wasn't that sarcastic frat boy type, but a very genuine innocent soul kind of a character. I don't know why people don't credit him for being able to pull off Steve Rogers considering what he's known for, which can be douchey characters.
