Pleasantly surprised

I wanted to see this for awhile, but really only because I enjoy Chris Evans so much, I'm not really into the courtroom drama thing. I ended up getting so drawn into the story, and so interested in the real life aspect, that I forgot all about the actors. In my opinions, this is usually the mark of a pretty decent film.

With that said, I don't get why it's rated so low. Any thoughts?

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me.

I was also pleasantly surprised but not as I was longing for Chris Evans! Although I must say that this may well be his best film??? (no, I don't really want a list of Evans' films - really, no, please spare me)

I was actually drawn to the courtroom drame angle but where the pleasantness of the surprise came in when there was actually very little of this but more focus on the depth of characters and the tests of their resolve.

so, I agree with your assessment, but from almost the exact opposite view point - just shows you how differnt folks can interpret the same film, hence maybe why low(ish) rating - no accounting for taste.

How different we all are! I for one, am a huge fan of courtroom dramas (still haven't grown tired of the old David v. Goliath stories) and wasn't really a big proponent of Evans but I must say, this made me a fan.

I'm not really big into the the comic book/superhero genre he seems so fond of so I've never really seen much of the work where he's had a leading role and always pegged him for another one of those vapid pretty boy types with better abs than skill. However I have to admit, I was quite surprised that he was so talented and gave me everything I needed in the role.

I watched due to the subject matter/courtroom drama as well but thought he did ok but I wonder what someone like Christian Bale would have done with it since he did a great job in Harsh Times.

Chris is like vanilla yogurt. Looks and sounds like a bad idea but when you taste it its ok but I still would rather have strawberry or peach.

I wanted to watch this film for a while, and when I finally caught it I was, as you mention, pleasantly surprised by the movie too. I'm a fan of Chris Evans for a long time, and I loved his gritty performance here. Its a difficult role to play and generally not the type of character that Chris portrays usually, but I think he's done a good job...with Chris being the only star in this film, I think the addition of a few more known actors in the movie could have helped it gain a wider audience. Nevertheless, its an interesting movie and I enjoyed it.
