What was with the car following him around at the end? I didn't really understand the relevance?

I think it's implied that his death wasnt an ACCIDENTAL overdose.

They sent someone to kill him and make it look like an overdose...that was why the car followed him...to follow him and spot his weaknesses and then go in for a strike when he was alone.
