As a nurse, you MUST know that NOT every situation is a predictable one. Accidents DO happen, no matter HOW rigid the safety protocol is. I've been a patient in a hospital that used a safety needle. The nurse who administered the shot...(maybe Topomax?...an anti-inflammatory drug), was a nurse in training. She'd never done it before, and believe me,it hurt. However, in the long run,I was grateful I'd agreed be the "guinea pig". (And this was recent...Mar.,2016).
Once the medical staff learns HOW to use the safety needle, the better off ALL patients will be. Like I said...I was asked to be a guinea pig, and I totally agreed. How else are young medical staff to learn? I encourage every future surgical patient to allow themselves to become that most important medical learning "device", the beloved "Guinea Pig"! It's NOT FUN. IT can be painful! But so well WORTH IT. A REAL CONTRIBUTION to science, if you will. Almost as good as being a blood donor...ALMOST!
