NO, NO, PLEASE GOD NOT AGAIN!!!

Two guys are in love with the same girl... what a shocking surprise: a turning point in the history of story telling!

HEY PEOPLE! When will you finally wake up and force feed these ghey directors with their own *beep* propaganda scripts and make them choke on it? I understand it all started with Arthur-Lancelot-Guinevere, or even long before that with Dagda the local head of the Gods of the anglos at the time, who was able to laugh at himself and being cheerily undignified (ie being man enough to stand not being manly..., that's like killing for peace, ie like fcking for virginity) but seriously... you must realize those times are long over for fck's sake! be REAL, just go and find another girl! start fckin have a spine

Were you being sarcastic when you responded to his rant or were you really encouraging him to write a book??

Question: Did you even watch the movie?? If not, you really missed the point of the movie. If you did, apparently it just wasn't for you. It's a movie. Don't take it so seriously. Jeez.

That's not particularly about the story or anything, it is simply because of the layout: the showdown between 2 guys and 1 girl. It doesn't matter whether this can happen or how often can happen in real life, what matter is the simple fact that this layout is kept being hammered continuously into our minds. You don't see the slightest bias here? Surely this happens the other way around as many times, that is 2 girls fighting over 1 guy? Yet you can not even compare the amount of these 2 types of layouts in movies. I am not going into any conspiracy theories, I'll just ask you. Can you explain why?

They have made a movie about a strong female like in a quadzillonth time to get the approval of the usually gay critics (if you don't understand why gays in the west want to weaken the image of men and strengthen the image of females, then we have nothing to talk about) and to be able to get some feminist/liberal money from government or the again usually gay dominated art funds, throw in a bit of serial killing for the primitive csi-brainwashed news-business twisted masses, and you get the next "artsy" tom&jerry in adult version, bleh I'm sick to my stomach...

I personally think that you gave this movie way too much thought. It's simply a movie. Movies are produced to entertain us .. to escape our world temporarily much like books are. You don't need to analyze it to death. Apparently, this movie wasn't for you. I get it .. move on already.

That's because you don't know what cultural hegemony (and its implications) is.

Pinky, it is sad you think movies are only for entertainment and escape, simply because that is what they are to you.

Movies can and do entertain. Entertainment is indeed a form of escape for many, for relaxation too, and for enjoyment. But movies are like many other art forms in that they are created for a lot more than just entertainment and escape. Movies teach, satirize, move an audience to feel a certain emotional state, tell a story that needs to be told, just to name a few things.

When someone (like the OP) looks at a movie and critiques it, that person is not overthinking, or even thinking overly deeply about the movie. Your message of "Don't overthink!" is right in line with the atmosphere of today, and what it really means is "Don't think! Just be entertained. Just use movies to escape."

Personally I found a lot about this movie to comment on. It was done poorly. The characters were two-dimensional and there were several points of the film that were illogical (why would Caroline lay down to sleep outside by the satellite dish when a killer was out prowling? Why did the gym teacher knock on Barry's door to tell him the killer had died instead of texting or calling? and others.)

The filmmakers dropped the ball on several aspects of the movie, and there were all-too-clear influences of Donnie Darko in the camerawork, as well as Hedwig and the Angry Inch (in the 'flying down the hallway' scene).

Have I thought too much here? It took one or two minutes to think what I just wrote as I typed it. My brain is capable of a lot more thinking. If someone wants to critique a piece of entertainment, that's good exercise for the mind and promotes discussion. That's what message boards are for.

Re: Why there are never movies with 2 girls fighting for 1 man.. because when a man is rejected and continues to 'fight' for the woman who has shown him she's not interested, people think he's adorable and sweet and brave. When a woman does the same thing, she's labeled pathetic and desperate.

reply

I seriously do not know what you are talking about. I have never seen or known anyone who'd label this as 'brave' or 'sweet'. The adjectives come to mind are 'worm', 'incompetent to find another girl', 'spineless', 'out of control', maybe even a special form of being quietly 'hysterical'.

Can someone tell me what Thurston did to get Caroline to fall in love him (besides be dorky) and what Thurston did to get that other chick to try and have sex with him (besides be dorky)?

It's bad enough this movie was boring and slow and unfunny and all over the place (especially with the serial killer subplot), but I really couldn't figure out why Thurstan has these two broads trying to jump his bones when he really didn't do anything. The teacher I get, but him? He didn't even bake the stupid cupcakes, his mom did!

BTW, in the entire history of the world, no man named Thurston has ever gotten laid. Ever.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.

Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958)[1] is an American musician best known as a singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sonic Youth. Was married at least 10 years and has a daughter.

I think that since the person who made the movie has Sonic Youth in the movie and personally chose all the music, he may have used Thurston's name. IMHO.
