What's up with all the dreadful emo music in movies lately?

The music in this film is AWFUL. I can't stand it. Every other movie (usually with teens in the horror/thriller genre) has these awful pop-punk-emo-hipster one hit wonder bands and their crappy music in the soundtrack.

The music itself is depressing, hollow and repetitive and not only does it pull the viewer out of the story but it creates a really depressing mood.

Stop it already. Stop using crappy music from crappy bands.

Oh come on, I'm all against using bad music in films (including hollow emo crap), but hinting that The Cinematic Orchestra is some fleeting emo/punk one hit wonder band is just stupid. They're even hugely critically acclaimed and have been so for the past 15 years or so.

Another band featured here were The Kills, formed in 2000, who I do find slightly overrated, but they're nowhere close to a bad band or a fleeting 'one hit wonder'.

Also, saying that depressing, repetitive tunes for a depressing movie dependent on repetition takes the viewer out of the story is a pretty unfounded claim to make.

Several times throughout the movie I remarked to my wife how great I thought the soundtrack was. If that's what emo is then I was way off in what I thought emo music was.

I, too, thought it was remarkable. Ears perked up when they played Kettering by The Antlers.

I don't get it? So anything that is melancholy = emo (Which I understand) but I don't get how it's all bad?

I liked the music myself...

I was VERY grateful that it was full of non-music rap!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
