Loved it but massive plot hole

SPOILER ALERT

The ending. Completely fitting to the movie and exactly what I was thinking should happen.

BUT

How come Thursday starts the same as Wednesday? Surely after killing two cops the day before, Weeks would have gone somewhere else other than the Rehab facility to sleep and would have noticed things around his room etc were different?

Also, how come the police at the end says that only two people have already been shot, ignoring the cops from the day before?

The only explanation I can come to is that it was the first day that was the one that stuck and the set were wiped clean, but that undermines the point of the film.

Still, no matter what, I still loved it.

Since it was never answered that it was in fact Thursday, I took it to mean that it was still Wednesday, but all the previous Wednesdays weren't "real" ... or at least wasn't the real Wednesday that would count permanently, the tipoff being the snow signifying it was a different Wednesday than all that came previously.

reply

No, the day it snowed was Thursday. If it was Wednesday again, it would have been the same, especially the weather.

reply

It didn't start snowing until midday. Weeks was still stuck on Wednesday however.

reply

Why can't Thursday start the same as Wednesday?

The two cops were killed some "day" before, but not THE Wednesday when Sonia finally talked to her father and Kyle to his sister. So, both of them finally got out of the loop, but Michael is still stuck in one, this being a Wednesday now.

What you're saying is not a plot hole at all. The Wednesday when he shot the cops was not the day before the snow comes. The lead character talks to his sister in her bedroom the night before the snow comes. Basically all we ever see from this last Wednesday before the snow is the hospital scene when she actually visits her Dad, and then the night scene at his Mom and sister's house. Therefore he is not in the cafe or whatever it was when he shot the cops with his sister there. You're confusing the last Wednesday is all. He shoots the cops on the third to last Wednesday I believe. He actually shoots the lead guy in the leg the Wednesday after he shoots the cops I think. Definitely does not shoot the cops on the last Wednesday, that much is fact. We see very little of the last Wednesday.

Ahhh, thanks. That makes sense. Was bugging me.

Glad I could help exterminate the bugs.

actually it's strongly implied that Weeks does kill them again on that Wednesday. when Kyle visits his family home to see his sister there's a news report on the TV as he goes to her room saying "residents are reeling tonight over the deaths of two local police officers in what's shaping up to be a double homicide. The suspect is described as a caucasian male in his early twenties"
however it's clear that Weeks has not been identified yet so he'd still start the next day as a free man
as to why he went back to the rehab place to sleep, he has to sleep somewhere and it's probably less disconcerting to go to sleep and wake up in the same place so it'd be a sensible place to go
