Ezria, Spoby, Haleb....

Don't you guys think that this show has very uninteresting, boring, and annoying couples?

Every teen drama show has that one epic IT couple:

Beverly Hills 90210 has two: Dylan and Brenda, Brandon and Kelly

Dawson's Creek: Pacey and Joey

The OC: Seth and Summer(a mini Ross and Rachel if you ask me)

One Tree Hill: (depending on who you ask, to be honest; the weirdest fan split in teen drama history) Either Brooke and Lucas, Lucas and Peyton or Nathan and Haley

Gossip Girl: Chuck and Blair

90210: Annie and Liam(supposedly)

It seems like the couples on this show are popular but for all the wrong reasons. For starters:
1. Ezra and Aria: Aria is a favorite among the young female fans because she is unique and kind of has that bad ass teenage girl thing where she dares to be different that people just love and also, Ezra is the smoking hot teacher. We can talk about why this couple is wrong but they are only popular because of the reasons I mentioned. It is a fantasy to be with your hot teacher but they can be incredibly boring and annoying all at once. They are not epic, amazing, or entertaining at all.

2. Spencer and Toby: They are cute and everything but they are mostly popular because they get the most attention out of any of the other couples. They take over the screen constantly and they got old pretty quick.

3. Caleb and Hanna are probably the most underrated out of all of them since they did not get as much attention as the others till the season where Spencer and Caleb were put together to cause tension, sadly for the fans of both couples. They are probably the most normally functioning high school couple who have the most "Danny and Sandy" from Grease thing going on with him being the bad boy and her kind of sort of being the good girl but you can tell they are two people who lost steam and will just deal with being friends without any passion for the rest of their lives if they stayed together.

Spencer and Caleb were kind of, sort of the step in the right direction(they remind me a little of Blair and Dan from Gossip Girl) but they were only put together like I mentioned to split Hanna and Caleb up only to put them together only for them to be even worse than Spoby and Ezria when they in my opinion were far superior and more mature in high school.

So, there are truly no epic or at least high school couples on this show. If only they took the attention away from Ezra, put Aria with Noel, killed Toby after Season 1 and hired an actor on Troian's level that gave some steam to a relationship with Spencer, and Caleb and Hanna stay together throughout all of high school but split amicably after while meeting someone else that fits their personalities more.

What do you guys think?

Aria and Ezra are the closest they got to an epic couple because everyone was hooked on their forbidden romance. The fact that the show made a forbidden romance that boring is truly a remarkable feat. Personally I would've killed Toby off either in season 1 or at the latest after his betrayal. Spencer fit well with Wren and Andrew but for some reason they paired Aria with Andrew when she worked very well with Noel and Jason(if they wanted to do the older guy relationship). Dan and Blair were everything as were Brenda and Dylan. I would've rooted for more of the PLL couples but they didn't give us much to work with at certain points. Hanna and Caleb were fine until he left for Ravenswood. Once that happened I had a hard time taking Caleb seriously. I guess the issue is I can't see Hanna with anyone in particular so maybe Travis or Jordan for her? Caleb would actually fit well with Mona, Spencer and Aria.

I imagined someone like Pacey Witter for Hanna, someone super goofy and funny like her. I agree with most of what you said but since Caleb hates Mona, I doubt that would have happened. Oh and I loved Dan and Blair too! When Dan loves someone, he makes it beautiful. He did not love Serena the way he loved Blair(the Blake Lively L'Oréal commercial came on as I was typing this). I know off topic but he loved Serena from a distant until he actually got to know her but he LOVED Blair! They really are everything. Again, Ezra and Aria are not really epic. The fans(mainly the young, female annoying ones) and the writers just love them for the wrong reasons!

Yikes. Don't remind me about OTH.

I'm not invested in any of the couples and haven't been in years. Every side character they've dated I shipped 10000x more.

also, does anyone consider Ezra hot? Of all the inappropriately older guys who date teenagers on PLL he's the only not hot one.

I haven't gotten over Dan and Blair even a little bit tbh. It could of been something to actually leave a positive impression and be something fresh. At least if they hasn't thrown the curve ball with gossip girl's identity.

reply

Really? Hanna did not really have anybody appealing that was not Caleb(at least to me). However, I can see what you mean about the other girls.

I know, I loved Dan and Blair too, way more than Serena and Dan. They were only an OKAY high school but I do not like one sided relationships that were made a bigger deal than they actually were.

"Yikes. Don't remind me about OTH." I feel you, trust!

Everybody considers Ezra hot or most people. I do not but I have not heard anything to the contrary.

reply

After the whole Miranda/Ravenswood thing I wasn't feeling Haleb but I really liked Travis. I don't anyone on this board thinks he's hot, at least no one I can think of. Even Garret was hotter IMO.

I've shed actual tears over Dan and Blair because it was so healthy and safe. He loved so unconditionally and despite everything he still knew who she could've been.

It's funny how Chad/Lucas both cheated on Sophia/Brooke and by funny I mean sad. I could never continue to work with my ex if he cheated on me. I wonder if it helped Leyton as endgame.

reply

Well, I always heard from Pretty Little Liars fan all over that they think he is hot and that is the reason Ezra is the most popular male on the show after Caleb, because of his "hotness".

I know, I loved the way Dan loved Blair. It was beautiful. I loved Chuck and Blair, was obsessed actually but they were so unhealthy and Chuck was just awful to her. Dan and Blair were amazing together. They were probably the best couple that show had ever had.

I wonder that too but we will never know!

reply

It sped up the Leyton endgame. Brooke and Lucas were supposed to reunite in season 4 but due to the cheating that didn't happen at all. I adore Dan and Blair so in my mind the show ends with Dan putting the tiara on her head. They had something really special and the show ruined it because the writers were obsessed with Chuck and the abuse he inflicted on Blair. She became a pawn in a shipping war and I hate when shows don't deal with big issues. They brought up her eating disorder and I wish the Chuck abuse could've triggered it again and then he realizes that he's a monster so he commits suicide.

That is SO harsh!

Yes, Chuck was terrible and Dan was good TO BLAIR but as long as Chuck redeems himself, I think him and Blair can split amicably while working out their issues, so their is no tension between them and just move on with someone else.

I loved Dan and Blair also but realistically, just like how I feel about Spencer and Caleb, it would have never happened in real life(EVEN THOUGH I LOVE DAN AND BLAIR).

Blair treated Dan's sister like crap over the years and banished her from New York after she slept with Chuck. I doubt that is something he would forgive so easily, on top of her being mean to him the entire run of the show and making him feel like scum, which is probably why he turned out to be the a** he was in the first place. Let's also not forget their connection to Serena on top of that. I do not think he loved her truly but I doubt Blair would actually go there. They made Blair not herself that entire season and there is no way given her character would she either date a Humphrey or date the man that her best friend loved. This is coming from a fan WHO LOVES THEM by the way! I know I said that already but OMG. I am torn because I love them but I know it is not realistic at all in my opinion.

Oh and do you really think Lucas and Peyton would not have been endgame if Sophia and Chad did not split up in real life?

reply

Yeah I just can't help but ship Chuck with death. He deserves the worst. I think Peyton and Lucas would've still been endgame but maybe not until season 5 or the end of season 4. I always preferred Peyton with Jake because I find Lucas to be very annoying. The couples I love never end up together which I've accepted so my endings always differ from the show.
