I'm totally with you. It really infuriates me for several reasons. First, it's just lazy bad writing. It's a way to get drama but without killing off a character. It's SO routine and predictable in film now that if the movie is evenly remotely thrillerish and there is a pet, I count down till the animal is killed. It also really bothers me because it gives despicable people motivation and incentive to harm animals as a way to hurt someone. And, specific ideas of how to do it. There is one film I really REALLY wish I could unsee where they tortured a poor baby animal in a particularly novel way and I just know that some sick pos went and copied it. STOP KILLING ANIMALS IN MOVIES, you sick lazy film makers!
