Modern Comics Aren't As Funny As Their Predecessors

I just saw the trailer for HOTW:II and I'm sorry to say, I'm not impressed (at least so far).

A lot of that may be because of the relative absence of 96-year-old Mel Brooks from the sketches (which is understandable, but means that the funniest element of the original film is no longer to the fore), but I also can't help thinking that today's comics aren't as funny as earlier generations, and that's partly because earlier generations of comics (at least the types who appeared in Mel Brooks films) weren't constantly showing up on social media to give us their 'hot takes' on the latest political story or their opinion on Marvel films. They just stuck to being funny comedy actors, which made it far easier to separate their onscreen persona from their offscreen personality.
