A possible clichéd ending with a twist

(Flashback: Andrew got hit on the back of his head in the bar...)

Andrew wakes up at the hospital with a bandage wrapped around his head. Sitting by the bed, Eric is in tears of joy. Nurse Sabrina immediately calls the doctor and Redmond shows up to examine Andrew.

Later the day, Adriane from the childcare center brings Wen to Andrew. Wen hugs him and bursts into tears. Andrew realizes something is wrong.
"Wen, where is your dad?"
Andrew looks for Eric anxiously, "Eric, Eric-"
His health condition starts to deteriorate.

Hospital superintendent Leonard comes to explain to Andrew: he has been in a coma for 3 months since the head injury in the bar. Eric was by his side every day until a outbreak took Eric's life along thousands of others. "I'm sorry for your lost..." Leonard encourages Andrew to be tough for the sake of Wen.

Three years later, Andrew is at home, watching Wen catch grasshoppers in the backyard, listening to TV news reports that the pandemic is still claiming hundreds of lives across the country each week, with excess deaths recorded high.... The plane crash scene in his dream flashes before his eyes for a moment, as he had a deep feeling that it could still happen because the root of sin, selfishness, will lead the human race to the doom. It's just a matter of time.

(The End)
