Excellent movie. 2 questions

Me and my partner loved it. Do you think that the animal's survived and also do you think they were treated well in the 'real world?' The way the cat and dog huddled together worried me, and perhaps he was mistreating them without knowing. Also, do you think his pink suit from work is imaginary and it was probably brown or something?

reply

Yes, near the end you can hear the Sheriff saying that they are contacting an animal shelter, so at the very least, Mr.Whiskers should be fine. I can't say for sure about Bosco, because he ran off.

As for during the movie itself, he may have been mistreating them, but there's no way to really tell for sure because of his skewed perception of reality.

There was an earlier announcement made that the dog was found. Both were to be taken to a shelter.

reply

In fact they repeated that information: "We have a cat and a dog."

This was supposed to help the animal lovers sleep at night, because while no one would ever have written a letter to the producer complaining about three human heads in the refrigerator, they would have screamed bloody murder over the possibility of the dog and cat not getting cared for.

This is why movies featuring ANY animal will run a disclaimer: "No animals were harmed during the filming of this movie."

"Oooo, lookee, a Sneerfest I can jump in on!!!"

reply

Right on on all points. And I would agree with the animal advocates....

I loved the film. Even, if not especially, the song and dance finale--brilliant!!

reply

Misstreating, as in not taking care of them maybe. There was *beep* on the apartment.

reply

I'm quite certain that both animals were humanely "put to sleep".

WTF Why?

reply

He was a bad dog.

The only evidence you have to support that is however your local animal shelter treats cats and dogs. Or maybe it's all in your imagination.

Not every shelter does that. They have always taken in abandoned animals (and legally these will be labeled abandoned) and put them up for adoption.

Not every adult cat gets ignored by adopters. Many people come in looking for non-kitten adoptions because kittens are a flaming pain in the ass, and go home with an adult cat.

Same with the dogs. Usually you go in expecting to return with an adult dog because the puppies are adopted first. The only reason for Bosco to get put down is not getting adopted within the deadline. I don't know what his odds are, what with being so huge, but with that lovey face I'd say he has a chance.

Because of the credits scene, I do think they both were "put to sleep". Otherwise, why they both finish in the "happy song" credits scene?

reply

That wasn't the real Bosco and Mr Whiskers, that was the manifestation of Jerry's illness. When they leave, it's showing that, since the illness was in his physical brain, dead Jerry isn't ill any more :)

Interesting question. That thought never crossed my mind. I did wonder about the pink attire, but I never considered to be in his head. Perhaps there was a clue to that answer in the movie that you and I missed?

reply

Ok before somebody says no. Think about it. He is Gay. That's why he has a pink suit on. Plus the pink wrapping tape. The cat always asking him if he got laid. He only wanted to kill Fiona not have sex with her. Plus many times how he would move his body, Him standing with his hand on his hip. So many hints in the movie.

reply

Pink does not mean gay.

reply

Well when in his altered perspective, his shirt is red, but after he takes his pills and reality sets in it is more of a dark purple. So perhaps the jump suits are actually more of a purplish color too like lavender or grape.

reply

I think you're way off base. A lot of heterosexual people have quirks, that others mistakenly perceive as gay proof.

Plus, you forgot he had sex with Lisa and enjoyed it.

reply

Well, the tape was still pink in the real world, where it was taped all over the pizza boxes. I can't imagine they painted the forklifts though, so who knows.

reply

Anyone else catch the fact that the character of Jesus was played by Michael PINK? Co-incidence? Maybe - hmmm.........

reply

i hadnt thought about the pink suits, but it makes sense. everything in his 'happy mind' was oranges and pinks. what i did wonder about though was his personal hygiene... surely if his flat looked that bad in reality, he wouldnt have been washing himself or his clothes very well either and people in work would of noticed?

reply

I also wondered about that.

Since he didn't see the blood all over everthing in his apartment, nor the animal poop all over the floor, how did he know to scrub his hands and face and put on clean clothing?

Just a very small plot hole that I chose not to see.

i think jerry's ability to see things in positive light was not entirely subconscious- even though he was in denial about killing fiona, after discussing with his animals he is aware he murdered her and therefore must cover it up.

reply

I was definitely expecting the pink to eventually be portrayed as a standard drab. I, like you, believe its implied through his nice apt/ what would generally be a *beep* job.

reply

I too was expecting the real world work clothes to be brown or dark, with a lot of dirt marks. I really wish the movie would have shown him at work on his meds. It would have improved the movie a tad.

reply

I think its much more interesting this way, things are generally from his point of view, we know he is nuts so its kinda obvious the reality isn't so pretty.

reply

do you think his pink suit from work is imaginary and it was probably brown or something?

While I was watching the movie I was wondering the same thing.. I was expecting to see a scene with him at work while on his meds, to reveal the real color of his work outfit.

reply

Regarding the worksuits;

After he kills Lisa, the workman who shows the bookkeeping gal the internet article about Jerry as a child was wearing a blue-grey work suit. I assumed that’s the “real” color.

Dude, it’s Beacon Hills.
