Question on the end spoilers

When the dog and cat said their good byes when Jerry died and the dog won as alpha voice.... Did they (the voice characters) move on to someone else who hears voices...I know they used the dog and cat as stunts to say good bye... but That always confused me.

Did you watch the film at all? The voices were, you know, completely in his head. They didn't move on.

They bought a house.

It's like Jerry's psychotherapist said, everyone hears their own voice(s).

Jerry's death and entrance into what was his idealized version of heaven at the close of the film seemed to vaguely tie in to what had been said of his mother's voices (the "angels" she claimed to hear) - the voices Jerry heard, personified in the form of his two pets, were the first things to greet him upon death. Essentially his own angels.

Good point thank you so much! So sad on people who really live through that....

The voices were Jerry. The dog was his good voice, the cat was his devil voice. Fiona's head and the women in the fridge were his conscience.

The cat and dog voices died with Jerry. The actual cat and dog were just normal animals who, one assumes, were taken and rehomed by the firefighters etc

Bosco and Mr. Whiskers were Jerry's good consciousness and evil consciousness. The dog said Jerry should die in the fire, so he can't hurt more people. The cat wanted the opposite. In that moment Jerry decided to die instead of fleeing / staying alive. Both of them saying goodbye to Jerry basically means he's free of any conscience now, since he's drawing his last breaths.

The way I read it is this: Jerry was a good man but a sick man and his sickness manifested as the perceived voices of his pets. We saw his dog run away before the climax so we know he didn't die and the cat probably got out too. The real, mortal animals that is. Since Jerry's sickness was linked to his physical body/brain, when he died he was no longer sick - that is why the animals in Heaven went away. Jerry was then able to make his peace with people he had harmed when sick and they forgave him because they understood that wasn't really him. I actually find that final scene very moving and powerful and much deeper than most people seem to realise.

Never thought of it that way good point. I never noticed how Jesus took Jerry up to heaven on the fork lift after he sang happy song. Can't imagine what people go through mental illnesses like that.
