Depressing and unwatchable :(

Did anyone else have to stop watching this? Too disturbing and depressing :(

reply

I watched it to the end. I didn't find it disturbing, just odd, no much humour to soften the blow. It was a little despressing but that's o ly because it wasn't a good movie.

I didn't stop watching it but kept hoping it would soon be over. What a piece of crap. Read my comment on Anna Kendrick on this board.

If disturbing was what the director was going for he did a great job.

SHE did a great job, touching and sad but fascinating and hilarious. I really enjoyed it, the end credits sequence was the perfect ending :-)

It was played as if it was supposed to be a comedy but when Anna was about to be murdered it was just disturbing and depressing. I turned it off.

I watched it because I thought it was just a dark comedy, but was unexpectedly moved by it. Jerry was so broken and really so sad and tragic. Ryan Reynolds gave an amazing performance. I feel like it gave me an unexpected insight into the mind of a schizophrenic. Hard to watch, but worth it.

Discomfort is good. It stretches us as human beings.

lol I would love to see what you would have to say about a movie that actually is disturbing. In this movie there is a tiny bit of gore and a tiny bit of blood and guts. It is mostly just comedic quirky lines. You must have a real faint heart if you cant handle this movie. When I think about this movie I think of it much more as a harmless comedy. I wouldn't even go as far as to call it disturbing at all. If you were to watch a movie like A Serbian Film or similar you would probably die of a heart attack.

People have different thresholds and definitions of "disturbing." To me, this was grotesque and didn't have quality comedy like other dark comedies. I love Very Bad Things and that Ewan McGregor film about auditioning a roommate. Gratuitous, hyperbolic gore is not my thing. Others may like it. This post is to elicit responses from those who may have found the film revolting as well.
Perhaps responders can suspend judgment about the OPs taste, and instead, focus on the subject by contributing to the conversation in a meaningful way.

While I enjoyed this movie for its black comedy, I also found the underlying meaning and message truly saddening and disturbing. Here we have a person with a legit mental illness and at least four destroyed lives because of that undet-treated mental illness (including him). At least at the end he was able to redeem himself. I found the dog's words at the end, pushing him to not fight for survival, most heart-wrenching. Jerry was a good person, and in the end he was able to make a decision that would be good for the world.

Sad that you are already that desensitized.

Well I am definitely intrigued to watch it now.
