I think it was just the stark contrast between the first act of the movie and everything after the deer accident. It was funny and pretty light hearted at first. I expected that tone to remain level throughout and it was jarring when it took a hard left.
But it was still a comedy, though not necessarily laugh out loud funny. This was some of the darkest of black comedy. But how isn't it funny when he's riding down a tree lined road on a sunny day with butterflies flapping around his head while he stares with a deranged expression at the road ahead of him or when the woman comes to his house to bring him some mini cakes interrupting his conversation with his pages and the severed head of the woman he murdered a few days ago. The Thing ends in a three minute song and dance routine.
It's a dark movie, but it is a comedy.
According to me, yes. I am the person it's usually according to when I'm talking.
