I call major bullshît...

Lydia has the strongest connection to Stiles? I would sooner ship Sterek than believe that pile of crap.

It should've been Scott. They've seriously made Scott useless for the sake of pushing Stydia, a relationship only 13-year-old girls give a fûck about, than write something that's truly emotional.

Of all the memories shown in the Stydia flashbacks, none of them even came close to the emotion of the Motel California scene.

Yeah....I even thought that sort hinted that Scott meant less to Stiles then Lydia....it was still emotional, but I always think the love Scott and Stiles has is stronger overall.

reply

I agree. Stiles strongest emotional relationship has always been to Scott. Scott is Stiles' best friend and his brother. There has never been any romantic relationship between Stiles and Lydia. They have been friends, but that's all. Now suddenly they are romantic. It's a relationship being pushed by the producers of the show to please the Stydia fans. Why? The show is ending. Period. There is no need for teen age romance between any of the characters.

reply

Have you watched the show? Stiles has had romantic feelings for Lydia since the start and in season 3 it was strong enough that she was the one chosen to be his "anchor". While I agree that it shouldve been Scott who had the strongest connection to him, Lydia has always been important to Stiles and in a way Stiles was always important to Lydia. It just wasnt until later that that became romantic on her part, but even on her part there hs been hints of feelings since season 3.

reply

I have watched the show and I haven't seen any of that. I think that it may be wishful thinking on your part.

(Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.)

reply

Maybe you didnt notice it because you thought it was always going to be platonic but there were hints of it. 3x11 Lydia's reaction after the kiss shows something had changed with how long it took her to adjust. In 4x01 she quite visibly made a face indicating jealousy when she in the car hears Malia tell Stiles she would never leave without him and that was before Malia cracked that she'd leave Lydia behind so it wasnt in reaction to that.
In 3B she was probably the most insistent and dedicated at trying to find him while in Eichen. The fact that she was having his anchor and the face she gave when it was obvious that it was due to Stiles's feelings.
Then we saw her starting to realize it after the rescue at 5x16 with the hand holding that does not occur between platonic friends.

The show has never heavily done anything because I'm sure Jeff didn't know whether he would put them fully together but the teases have been there. There is more I could mention but a rewatch would obviously accomplish seeing all of these with the added benefit of knowing where they are now.

reply

Jstitely1 is correct. Stiles has had a thing for Lydia going all the way back to the beginning. However, it was pretty much always unrequited. Lydia looked at him as a dork in early eps and eventually evolved into friendship on her part.

They started to hint at something more equal during season 5 as Stiles and Malia (sp?) broke up, Lydia was held in Eichen by the wacky doctor, etc. In episode 1 of season 6, they were together just before he was taken and he pushed her to remember him. So there's always been something there.

That being said, I do agree that the stronger emotional tie at this point is with Scott. While Stiles has always loved Lydia, whether a crush or something more, Lydia has only recently started to return those feelings. Scott has been Stiles' brother for much much longer.

reply

I agree with Jstitely1 and DavidTSG... the signs of Stiles and Lydia have been there all along. It was only hinted at, but still clear enough that I would have thought most viewers be able to pick up on it. They have subtly paired them all along just like Lydia being his anchor. Stiles is always the one she calls whenever she gets into trouble like finding dead bodies. Stiles has been obsessed with her since the beginning of the series, which has always been pretty clear. It did take Lydia longer to really show anything for him, but she did in several instances. I'd have to do a rewatch to point out every single instance, but the moments between them hinting at more have been there.

Really does it matter either way though? Scott, Lydia and Malia are all important in his life and tonight's episode shows that. It seems odd to try to argue who is MOST important. An alternative way of looking at it, that I don't think many have considered, is that Lydia was able to find him because she was the last person to see him. Nothing happened really until she had that last memory and then it seemed to kind of opened a door. I suppose if Scott was with him when he was taken it could have been Scott's memory that was the key.

reply

Nope. I call major wishful thinking.

(Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.)

reply

You're right OP but at the same time they tried that but because f how strong their tie is Scott couldn't focus on one general thing. jstitely1 has it right imo. Jeff probably didn't know if he was going to put Stiles and Lydia together so it was toyed back and forth but there have been instances especially after the kiss that show Lydia starting to feel for him as he feels for her. Hence the strong connection she was hiding but it finally came out

reply

Honestly I prefer stalia better..stiles and Lydia remind me more of Buffy and xander...he had a huge crush on Buffy at first but then it grew to a friendship that was much more..he became her strength and that's what i see with stiles and Lydia.
Also it annoyed me that he was chasing her for years and then he finally gets a gf (malia) and NOW she notices him..yes she said everything changed after that kiss.. Well if memory serves she was still hot and heavy with Aiden for the remainder of 3A and 3B she's supposed to be smart..maybe she was indenile i uno but she could have said something long time ago.
Don't get me wrong i was a huge stydia fan but when nothing happened after that kiss i got annoyed and really started to like stalia.

reply

This is a product of them doing the "will they or won't they" game with Stiles and Lydia and by the time they realized that no one cared anymore and the show was ending and time was running out, they decided to force them together to see if they can reel in any straggling Stydia shippers that have abandoned the show.

And it shows, too. Lydia is all of a sudden obsessed with Stiles and in love with him after basically treating him as only a friend for the five seasons, with the exception of maybe 5B.

But regardless of all of that, her connection with Stiles is not as strong as Scott. It shouldn't be and it was yet another opportunity they wasted for Scott all for the purpose of fan service.

Tonight's episode really annoyed me. Scott has been Stiles' best friend and brother for most of their lives together. Remember the beginning seasons of the show? It was Scott and Stiles. That's when the show was good. And now they are pushing Scott aside and making Lydia his best friend. Unbelievable! Just to please a vocal group of fans. They need to forget all of the teen age romance and end the show on a high note. Sadly, I don't think that they will.

(Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.)

reply

Ya I agree..it is totally forced and rushed..even in s4 (before they knew the 6th season would be the last) Lydia said and i quote "im done with teenage boys" and that was also after they kissed.
Then u see the connection with Lydia and Parrish and u think maybe something will happen there..parrish's hallucinations aside there was definite flirting on both parts..and parrish saved everyone from lydia's scream in s5b. Are we just supposed to forget about all that flirting and the fact they are connected.
I don't mind waiting a season or 2 for ppl to finally get together but c'mon its now halfway through the 6th season..that's just ridiculas i don't think any other writer has made us wait that long.

reply

I know you hate the idea, but this is why (or one of the reasons why) I'm looking forward to possibility of Stiles dying in 6x10. Because they sacrificed characterization and developed relationships just so they could appease Stydia shippers of all people!

If there were any people in the Teen Wolf who the most awful, it was definitely them! Sterek shippers were, too, for a time, but they checked out of the show when Derek left, so Stydia took the reigns as that annoying vocal group that never shuts up about their ship not being canon.

I'm just so ANNOYED at all of the shoe-horning for a ship that might not even be endgame if Stiles does leave the series for good.

I'm hoping that Stiles and Lydia just say that they are friends and Stiles leaves Beacon Hills. The whole Stydia thing is annoying and unnecessary. I find it incredible that the writers are now saying that Lydia is Stiles' best friend and not Scott! WTH?

I think Lydia is the type of person who doesn't realize what she has until it's gone.

Umm ... Yeah! Not accurate. There are people who ship Stydia that are not teenagers. Nice try, though.

No. Wait. I can't even post that without laughing.

Pretty patetic, pal.

Sorry. 13-year-old girls and people with the brains of 13-year-old girls.

Better?

Yes this is what I was thinking when watching it! Scott has the strongest relationship with him. If anything-out of the three of them Lydia has the weakest relationship within him. I will say that Scott, Lydia, Malia, and the sheriff do each have their own special bond with him

"Sometimes what I type doesn't make any sense because of the iPad."— By Me.

reply

Well all three together made an impact on the portal opening, but I think the "I didn't say it back" part was the real kick it needed to open. I liked that love was what brought him through. Scott couldn't keep focused enough on a certain memory and malia opened it more with the memory of her loving him, Idk. I just think since she remembered him leaving, too, opened it. It's defiantly for the shippers

reply

I can't help but feel bad for malia tho when Scott said all his memories had both of them (stiles and Lydia) and that they had a strong connection..malia looked hurt but she agreed..
However i don't agree lol..I lost intetests in stydis after s3.

mrumble,

"I can't help but feel bad for malia tho when Scott said all his memories had both of them (stiles and Lydia) and that they had a strong connection..malia looked hurt but she agreed..."

THANK YOU! i thought maybe i imagined that sort of hurt look on Malia's face in that scene. i'm glad i didn't and i'm glad you/others noticed it too. i felt very bad for Malia in that scene.

reply

i felt very bad for Malia in that scene

Me, too. Especially after seeing all the memories and the emotions it brought back.

reply

I didn´t read it that way, she was just the last one to push the memories enough to bring Stiles back, why? 1.- She can´t resist the freezing machine 2.- It would be much more emotional, she was the last one to see him.

But sure Scott is useless, I think he is the only one who is not turning into a werewolf to fight, he has had 0 development this season.

reply

I agree with what everyone else has already posted and I was really frustrated during this episode. When Scott was trying to isolate a memory and he opened the locker, I thought that perhaps it was going to be the memory from when Stiles was in the hospital and had his scan and he and Scott hugged, but as soon as I saw the road flare I immediately got goosebumps and thought, "Of course it was the hotel California scene! That's not only the emotional center for Scott and Stiles' relationship, it's the emotional center for the entire series." That's why when they pulled Scott out of the freezing chamber and put Malia in I was disappointed because I saw where it was going and I said, "they better not end with Lydia because she is not more important to Stiles than Scott." This thing with Stiles and Lydia is just annoying.

Same here. I knew they had to show this scene and I was kind of expecting it but when he pulled out the flare it still got me. And I think I still got choked up when they replayed the scene. That is THE best scene in the entire series. That scene also made me realize what a good actor Dylan O'Brien was and I knew he was going to go on to be in bigger projects.

The show is about Scott and Stiles. They should have ended with that scene. It would have been way more emotional and a better pay off.
