How good is Katie in this?
What are your thoughts on her portraying Jackie?
Miranda: Did you fall down and smack your little head on the pavement?
Andy: Not that I can recall

I thought Katie did an excellent job! There were a few times when the expression on her face was pure Jackie. In part 7, when they were aboard the airplane going to Dallas, there was a very touching scene in which JFK tells Jackie that he's seen all she's had to go through in the past few months (since Patrick's death), and he's going to try to be the man she deserves. When she responded with "I love you, Jack", the expression on her face was pure Jackie.
shareIt was okay for me. It wasn't Oscar worthy however it wasn't Razzie worthy. That was the main reason I wanted to watch this because way before the History channel dropped it,so many people were pessimistic about her just being cast for this role.
shareShe *looks* amazing. Just like Jackie. Her acting isn't half at all bad, but her voice isn't great. They really didn't give her much to work with, so we never really got to see her go all out IMO. Had she had a better written part, I think she could have done well.

I expected her to be thinner, esp. since she's tall and can carry weight. Her hips looked huge always, though Jackie may have started out bigger, eventually she rarely ever ate, took amphetamines and was very conscious about her weight. Her accent was ok, but a few times I heard a distinct New Yawk word here or there.
"Leave the gun. Take the canolis."
She really isn't that good of actress. Sorry, but the lady has no range. I really don't understand why people think she looks like Jackie. All I see is Katie Holmes in a wig trying to act.

I agree with you 100 percent JenniferA585. When I watched Katie Holmes as Jackie, all I saw was Katie Holmes playing dress up, with a horrible accent and speech pattern that was nothing like the real Jackie and with attitudes and tones that didn't remotely resemble Jackie. She is mostly being herself, using her own voice and being herself. I think that in Katie's case, she's too young to be playing such a big role. She is oddly enough about the same age as Jackie Kennedy was when she lived in the White House (early 30's) but I think that Katie looks much younger physically than Jackie who was a very mature looking woman even at 30. Katie Holmes has never been a good actress. I still see her as the same teenager from the TV series Dawson's Creek of the late 90's. I think she hasn't grown that much as an actress. She hadn't done much in recent years because of her marriage to Tom Cruise and because she had a kid with him. So she's been rusting. They should have cast an older more experienced actress who resembles Jackie and who could do a more dead-on portrayal of her. I don't see any resemblance between Katie and Jackie at all. Katie isn't half as beautiful as Jackie was.
I also just hate how she made Jackie out to be some type of feminist. She is very confrontational with JFK, and in this movie she even contemplates divorcing Jack, something which never did happen in real life. Jackie put up with Jack's infidelities and just played the role of First Lady and mother of his children, she was from another era in which her life did not center around herself. Even if her own needs were not being met, she couldn't do anything about it. The way that Katie portrays her in this movie is as if she were a modern present day housewife angry at her husband being unfaithful and trying to work things out.
That accent was awful. She used it rarely and didn't slip into it that much but in early scenes she tries and it sounds awful.
"I love Jack and that's something you CAAANT understand" LOL
Haha. That part made me laugh. A lot. Just by that I knew I shouldn't take the series so seriously and by episode 8, I wondered if the writers did any research...?
shareI have to recuse myself from voting because I have found Katie Holmes all-around creepy for a long time. She is creepy when she is interviewed and she is creepy looking. There was almost no chance I was going to like her in this. Sure enough, I didn't.
She needed to keep her mouth shut because she has those weird snaggly teeth which Jackie did not have. Apart from all the other points that have been made, that was wrong and off-putting.
Can we all chip in and get Katie Holmes some dental work?
She looked the part, but is a terrible actress. She acts like the Scientology Stepford wife that she is in life.
______
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight.
I couldn´t hear Katie´s accent in the movie because I saw the Spanish translation, but I didn´t like her acting at all. She looks cold and she didn´t have any chemistry with Greg Kinnear
shareI agree. She isn't that good. Weakest in the cast by far. Doesn't look like Jackie.
shareI didn't think she was too good, but not sure if her role in the series really meant for her to be a very important figure. The accent was more of a laugh. Whenever she opened her mouth, she sounded like Lois Griffin from the Family Guy TV Show. Whenever she opened her mouth, I thought some animated talking dog was going to run out onto the screen.
share I was So Impressed with her Portrayal of Jackie! Man I still Claim she is One of the Best Younger Female Actresses in Hollywood--Despite others Claims that she is a Terrible Actor! I am Also Grateful to Mr Cruise that he has Allowed his New Bride to go back to Work and Not Just Keep her 'Locked Away as Mrs Tom Cruise' I sure hope her Great Work in this allows her to Get other Good Parts and we get to Enjoy her Fine Work 4 years to Come!
Cheers T:

There was a scene in the fifth episode, a dinner at the white house, and after the piano concert when Katie is talking to a woman by themselves away from the crowd, she does the weirdest facial ticks. i thought this would turn into something about the side effects from the drugs Dr. Feelgood used to give her. but that's just Katie Holmes.
i can't comment on her accent as i can't hear, but her acting was stiff
I didn't particularly care for Katie Holmes. There were times when I thought there was not one single thought that passed through her head when she talked or after she talked. I didn't like Greg Kinnear all that much either, although he was better than Katie Holmes. They kept playing up the ladies man with charisma storyline, yet all I kept seeing was a depressed cigar smoker with back pain.
shareI just finished watching it on Netflix and I really enjoyed her performance. The emotions seemed real and she definitely looked the part. I haven't really seen her in much and wasn't quite sure of her being cast for Jackie but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a big Kennedy buff but from what I do know, and going by the perception the miniseries was looking at the whole thing with, Katie Holmes seemed to me like one of the better actors through it all.
But I can understand people thinking differently. It's all subjective after all.
