Where's Ted?

Anyone know why Ted was left out? Not even a mention in the series! Loved the series but I can't help but feel I got ripped off a bit.

reply

Yea ridiculous to not have Teddy in it at all

reply

Drunk, as usual.

reply

I thought in the first episode when Joe Jr. was getting ready to leave, he said "stay out of trouble, Teddy" to one of the brothers?

reply

They even mention the Kennedy that got a lobotomy and Joe Jr. but not Ted? They could at least have given him a small scene somewhere, but no, nothing. The makers of this series left him out on purpose. Are we supposed to believe that a brother of JFK and a senator, just escaped their notice?

reply

I'm surprised there are only three messages on this topic! It was A GLARING OMISSION...and obviously a deliberate act! Why?????????????

reply

There are only three prior messages in this thread because Ted Kennedy’s absence from the series has been noted and addressed again and again and again over the last three months. Page back… A glaring omission and a deliberate act?? Hardly. The fact is that in the grand scheme of things (where national politics is concerned, at least) the youngest Kennedy child was completely irrelevant until late 1962, when he was elected to the Senate.

reply

I agree...but why call the series "The Kennedys"? Why not "The Jack and Bobby Age" or something like that. Teddy was a monumental political figure after the tragic Chappaquiddick episode [and the latter is a dramatic "Kennedy" story in itself].

reply

Oh I know what you’re saying exactly. I suppose in the end it comes down to which is the bigger hook, right or wrong. Hell, as far as it goes even Teddy’s tale of Chappaquiddick (which he discussed in some detail in his last book) makes perfect sense psychologically - and it’s the psychology as much as anything that’s the key to the entire Kennedy saga. Unfortunately most of that was brushed aside in the series, in favor of condoms, tampons and conspiracies.

reply

Even with 8 hours, the story of the Kennedys was simply too small to conclude everything from Joseph Kennedy's lousy political career to the death of JFK. Jr.

"Monumental"? hardly.

Lay on, McDuff, and damned be him who first cries 'Hold, Enough!'

reply

Where do they address the fact that Ted is not mentioned at all? I realize he is not as big as John & Bobby, but he must be at least bigger than Joe's secretary!!!

reply

Back then TEd Kennedy was not important to the presidency.

And later he was a horrible embarrassment and continued to be that.
There was NO reason to include him.

reply

And later he was a horrible embarrassment and continued to be that.

No, he wasn't. He was one of the few politicians who really cared and who did MUCH more for US than many people in the government ever did. It's really sad people bash him just because they don't agree with his politics.

reply

Do I smell a sequel?

I thought I smelled something.

reply

Teddy was mentioned in the first episode. When Jack or Joe Jr, can't remember which, was going into the Navy, he said "Teddy, get my bag" and a young boy picked it up. That the only mention there was that I remember though.

reply

I haven't seen this yet, I ordered it and It will arrive sometime this week. The main focus was Jack, Bobby and Joe Sr. You cannot cover every single Kennedy in an 8 part mini series. You would need more like 20 episodes for that.

I'm looking forward to this.

I happen to dislike Archie Bunker with great passion and conviction

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like they leave out a lot of the family. It wouldn't have taken 20 more episodes.

They could have been seen and mentioned even if it was only briefly.

You lose credibility when you're doing a docudrama and you aren't accurate.

reply

I think the problem is that this is not a fastpaced miniseries, the events that are shown are being portrayed in such a way that they take their time and show everyone's reactions to it. I was also disappointed to find Ted Kennedy missing (among other things) but I do understand it, given the pace of the show. It's a shame, but then again, I suppose the man is used to always standing in his brother's shadow...

reply

They were accurate. The simply left some people and events out.

reply

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read some where that several members of the Kennedy family were against this production. Perhaps that can also help explain why certain members weren't given mention.

reply

Nah. People don't own the rights to their life stories. The filmmakers were even less worried about it since the show premiered long after Ted Kennedy's death.

People are still asking? when JFK was elected TED was in his 20's. Joe Sr had 9 kids, did the show mention all of them? No. Only the ones relevant to the JFK administration.
