Did RFK really have an affair with Jackie?

I didnt finish the series yet, so I dont know if they address it, but is it true? And do they show or mention the affair? At this point I find it highly hypocritical of both Bobby and Jackie, given that Bobby opposed infidelity and Jackie leaving JFK because of his lack of respect for her. Unless these were Bobbie's and Jackie's flaws, I'm not sure whether to believe if Bobby actually cheated on Ethel with his brothers widow. Some people say it happened, some people say it never did. What's the truth?

Of course they never had an affair and you should finish watching it instead asking questions about what happens next.

I was referring to the second question if the series features the alleged affair.

I do have to say, even though it's something I doubt happened, it does seem to be implied slightly in the series. At first I thought that they were just being played off as extremely close and we were just seeing things but that final phone call seemed to imply, at least the way Barry Pepper seemed to be playing it, about unrequited romantic feelings. I think maybe they did that because they really wanted us to wonder about it; my grandmother once worked on an RFK campaign back in the day and she said it was something that people did wonder about, because they were always seen out together in New York and around some of the conventions together, sans Ethel. He was also her escort to parties a lot. But the idea of an affair between them was usually dismissed.

No one knows, I don't believe so. It was always a rumor because they were very close, but the only book that has ever had anything to say on the matter is Heymann's 'Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story', which is has been mentioned a few times on the board by myself and others. While some stuff is true, Heyman was a JFK Jr, hanger on, if by hanger on, we meant met a few times, and he basically ripped whole pages out of other Kennedy books and added some details which may or may not be true. Many cite him as a fraud. This book came out around 2008 and it made news for awhile. It is a tantalizing read, because the idea that RFK and Jackie had a love story is interesting, but is not to be trusted as fact.

This link is one of many that that debunks Heymann's work: http://whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/CRASH/JFK_JR/goldman.html

That is not the only book that mentions it. It is an old rumor, that's for sure, but an affair was stated by other books, such as "America's Queen", an excellent biography (IMO, the best) of Jackie by Sarah Bradford. The sources, such as Chuck Spalding (alive when the book was released) said there was an affair,

No one will ever know. They could have. They may not have. It can't be proven.

On one hand, I think Bobby was the husband Jackie always wanted. And Bobby didn't like seeing Jack hurt her. (with the affairs) Seeing her hurting after his death, they may not have been thinking clearly and done something.

On the other hand, Bobby loved Jack and Ethel and he probably didn't cheat.

Either way, it undeniable that Bobby and Jackie were very close after Jack's death. I think that's beautiful. I always loved this picture of the two of them: http://lisawallerrogers.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/jbk-rfk-airport.jpg?w=275&h=423

Dude, that's the picture where they're returning from Dallas with the body. She's covered in *blood*.

Okay, Bobby Kennedy cheated on his wife. All the four Kennedy men did. It's been discussed time and time again by biographers. To trade Jack in for Bobby wishfully, would be trading one adulterer for another.

However, the Jackie and Bobby thing? Only discussed by one biographer who has a history of slander and lying. The same biographer said RFK had a homosexual affair with a gay dancer.

I know when the picture was taken. I liked it because it shows how close RFK and Jackie were, how he was there for her and there to protect her during her lowest moments. I wasn't suggesting any romantic link in that picture.

reply

I didn't say you were, I was just expecting a different picture. There are a few nice pictures of them out and about in NYC and on the beach; I assumed you were going for aesthetics rather than symbolism.

that picture is disturbing! she has blood all over her. not nice to look at imo.

You obviously missed a comment about the other biography mentioning the affair, America's Queen.
