Pepper is a Caricature of RFK

The whole rabbit-tooth thing and contorted mouth really makes "RFK", who himself was a fairly handsome fellow, look hideous! His accent was the most strained of all the actors, perhaps with exception of the actress portraying Jackie who makes Jackie look unintelligent and adolescent.

Agree RFK didn't look like a rabbit, but Pepper's portrayal does!

I always thought the Kennedy physical appeal was a little overblown. They were young, fit, wealthy, and fashionable, and had an incredibly charm and mystique, thus desirable in the eyes of the American public. Pepper has a remarkable likeness, maybe even less stern looking. The really good looking Kennedy was JFK Jr. and I think that was a little bit of his mother's genes.

The teeth are distracting but something that I always remember about RFK is how he'd have to push his bangs out of his face - haven't seen Pepper do that yet.

One thing about kids nowadays with the Bieber haircut, they do the same thing haha.

RFK didn't grow bangs until 1966-7.

I agree. Pepper doesn't look anything like Bobby Kennedy and I think he was a very poor choice for the part. As you say RFK was a handsome fellow and Pepper just makes him look ugly and weird. I'm really enjoying the series but Pepper's portrayal of Bobby is a total turn-off.

Just caught the first 3 episodes on Netflix and I completely agree that the way in which RFK is phyisically protrayed is awful. I liked Barry Pepper in "Saving Private Ryan" and he was absolutely wonderful as Roger Maris in Billy Chrystal's "61*." But here, while he's supposed to be playing Jack's good looking younger brother, he looks at least a decade older and his hair is all wrong. He looks nothing like the dashing RFK that we've all seen pictures of. For some reason though Ethel Kennedy, a very plain woman, is played by an attractive actress, in a complete reversal of the actual facts.

I am going against the thread here but I thought Pepper was outstanding. True he doesn't look like RFK but his performance was the strongest.

I agree with Squid. I'm about halfway through and I'm mesmerized by Pepper. Kinnear and Holmes have their moments when they seem to "fit," but Pepper's portrayal is effortless.

Unfortunately his makeup was terrible. It made him look exhumed.

Barry Pepper's performance was the best of the series.

People who are criticising performances after one viewing need to watch The Kennedys (available on Netflix) again.

Barry Pepper's portrayal of RFK is superb.

Greg Kinnear dissolved into Jack.
