Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy

I have to applaud Katie Holmes for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy. I was VERY skeptical about whether or not she would be able to pull it off due to her past performances. She's never had the presence to handle an adult role such as this one but I am happy to say that I LOVED her in the role. I'm not saying they couldn't have cast someone better in the role, but considering how I've thought of Katie in the past, I thought she brought a wonderful performance to the miniseries.

sure, just seen the first 3 episodes yesterday here in Italy...she steals the show in her scenes...wow, she's radiant

I gotta admit, I began watching just knowing I would hate her performance but she was outstanding. She did an excellent job. If there's any way for her to be nominated for an Emmy, this would be the role.

reply

I thought that she was horrid. To much of her "try to look pretty and frown" acting.

I have been so excited to see this though unfortunataely havent been able as my cable ch didn't provide it. plan on buying the dvd later this month.
I think Katie was perfectly cast- if for no other reason, her resembelence to Jackie- She looks so much like her its haunting- in fact when i became a fan of Katie's ( back in Dawson's Creek days) , the first thing that stuck out was how much she reminded me of Jackie. She is so versatile - in her roles/ - she is a true actress.

reply

I don't know, I thought Katie's accent made her sound like she was from Brooklyn.

reply

She has done an excellent job as Jackie. Having just watched the Diane Sawyer special with Caroline Kennedy, which features so much film footage of Jackie, I feel certain Katie must have studied Jackie and her mannerisms. She's got it down!

reply

Hahaha if you want to talk about accents, the Kennedy's do the worse accents ever! Not all of us from Massachusetts sound like them! I think that the other actors did a great job with their Kennedy dialects

Well, Brooklyn is the western end of Long Island.

reply

Hey Jimmy, Brooklyn is a borough all by itself and it's NOT considered the western end of Long Island.

reply

Geographically it is.

reply

I thought she REEKED. omg. terrible terrible.

Edna Garrett is a firecrotch.

reply

Something with her accent was off - it sounded more "Brooklyn" to me. However, other than that I do think she gave a strong performance.

reply

For the first time last night by chance I caught a few episodes of this mini series.

Katie Holmes IMO is no actress. I really thought she did a poor job.

Another thing about the "accent".
Jackie K, grew up on Long Island, did some school in France, and after her marriage to JFK spent time in Massachusetts.
Jackie K had NO accent, she spoke softly, at a whisper. Why they felt the need to give her an accent was a huge mistake, and Holmes butchered it.

reply

If you hear her being interviewed when JFK was running for senator she had a noticable accent. Somewhere between a NY accent, Boston accent and speech impediment. It was almost an Elmer Fudd accent. And not as breathy as when she was First Lady.

reply

Katie as herself is so beautiful. But as Jackie, she captured her look and voice and essence more than anyone else has.

You see, so many actresses have not heard Jackie's voice. It was soft and breathy and a little bit annoying.

I think Katie should have gotten a special award for this.
I hope this makes her career soar.

You people who are complaining. May I point out that this is an actress copying a real person's persona.
If you did not like it then you would not have liked the real person. I was 14 when Jack died and I remember exactly what Mrs. Kennedy looked like, sounded like (it was a shock to hear her talk) and how she behaved.

Katie caught it perfectly. And yes, Jackie had a slight accent from having been around the Kennedy family.

Her voice in real life was quite awful. So soft and weak. But Katie did it perfectly.

reply

Yeah. Also, more people have come to praise Holmes' performance after Jackie Os.'s tapes were recently released.

I don't usually like her performances very much but Katie Holmes blew me away as Jackie Kennedy. Definitely caught the voice and the mannerisms of Jackie and her interactions with Jack (Greg Kinnear) were genuine and they really seemed like a real-life couple.

I was pleasantly surprised and I think most of the audience was surprised as well :).

reply

I agree, I was pleasantly surprised. :)
