Yes, you are. It seemed like this actress had only ever seen still photos of Marilyn and never bothered watching any of her movies (or even scenes from her movies) prior to the role as nothing in the way she moved or spoke remotely resembled Marilyn. (I'm guessing people who loved her in this role are already fans of the actress and/or haven't seen any/much of Marilyn's work.)
Marilyn Monroe had a very distinctive way of walking and talking (in the way she used her eyes, mouth, *and* voice when she spoke) which was no doubt the result of pointed study in the mirror on her part for maximum effect of sexiness.
Aside from the lack of any of these mannerisms, this actress has a completely different face shape than Marilyn so she doesn't even resemble her beyond a curvy figure and platinum wig! I really don't understand the catering choice here at all as she can't imitate her, not does she resemble her.
If you want to see a nuanced performance that really brings out Marilyn's vulnerability, watch "My Week with Marilyn."
As a side note, this is coming from someone who isn't some die hard, obsessed fan critically analyzing every eye twitch. In fact, I'm not really a fan of Marilyn's at all as I find the very studied way she uses her lips and eyes (again, clearly for maximum "sexiness") to be annoying and unnatural. If it was for one role, fine, but turning oneself into a caricature for everyone to worship (which she obviously did quite successfully) has never been my cup of tea.
