Cate and Ty (in the case of a possible divorce)

I was reading a recap of the show and suddenly something occurred to me about Cate &Ty..

If these two get a divorce in the future I am willing to bet that Tyler will use Cate's depression/mental issues against her in a custody battle. I know he's a dick but I feel he will go full nasty a-hole as soon as he is done with the relationship.

I think and his mom could make things difficult for Cate. I hope of course that they'll stay married but as many others on here, I don't see the marriage lasting.

Thoughts?

I don't know how custody works but I don't always think the mother should automatically get full primary/physical custody simply because she's the mom. I would hope that Tyler would be more concerned about Nova's well-being instead of just trying to get back at Cate. If she can't get out of bed before noon, naps all day, smokes weed several times a day, and doesn't have motivation to even move off the couch, is she really the best person to take care of a small child full time? I'm sure she would just pawn her off on April most of the time. If she actually gets help and sticks with her treatment plan then I don't see Tyler having a problem with Nova living with Cate.

I agree with Piggytoes. If Cate is so depressed that she isn't able to function and take care of herself, is she in any position to take care of Nova? Spending a few grand on a pig for no good reason, missing doctors appointments when she has nothing else going on, smoking weed all the time, and laying around all day moping aren't exactly signs of a stable parent. Tyler may be the better parent since he appears to actually function fine.

Look at Gary and Amber for example. Although Gary has his own issues, I think he's done a good job raising Leah whereas I don't know if Amber would be able to get Leah up and ready for school every morning etc. like Gary does.

but she does have mental issues and that is a viable reason for seeking custody. if she can't get up and provide a safe, stimulating home life for her baby then she shouldn't be with her full time (jmo)

And Tyler would be completely in the right. Cate does nothing. She can't even get out of bed/sofa. I hope Tyler does get her if they divorced. I mean things are bad with cate and Tyler together, just imagine how useless she'd be to Nova if Tyler left.

In my opinion neither one of them really watch her like they should. She is always into something while they are chatting and visiting with people. Even when she cries they don't get up to see what happened. However, Tyler would be the better choice by far for residential parent. At least he has some gumption to get dressed and get out in the world. Cate has none. She is a huge tub of depressed goo and needs to work on herself BIG TIME. She can't possibly parent well in her state. Tyler also seems to have a more solid support system in his mom and even that goofy a$$ sister of his. Butch's heart is in the right place and I think he would step up too to help out even though he too is a goofball! LOL!

I think it is inevitable Tyler and cate will split. She is a complete basket case. Tyler looks to be at his breaking point and doesn't really care about her anymore. I doubt they have had sex in a long time.

His mother is absolutely fanning the flames. Cate does nothing to help herself out of the hole she is in. She is a lousy mom to nova and I think would not get custody if they divorce. Tyler would get full custody with cate getting visitation. He could say she is mentally unfit, has threatened suicide and is a habitual drug user. Case closed.

Very sad. They just got married and Catelynn was terrified that the marriage would change things.

Of course, it's difficult for Tyler to see Catelynn listless and depressed and always tired, but he took a vow, "in sickness and in health." He should stand by her and offer whatever comfort he can. He could set an example by getting a job himself.

I doubt even that would motivate her to get off her ass. Even Tyler found it ridiculous she couldn't make her appointment and you could tell he was holding back in his comments about it. Rather than her having common sense and saying "yeah you're right, I shouldn't even have set the snooze option" she says "not everyone can be like you Tyler". Yes Catelynn, because getting up when your alarm goes off for an appointment you've had set for months is an uncommon thing that only Tyler does. She's just *beep* lazy. Her appointment was at 9am and from the looks of her, I bet it takes her 5 mins tops to get ready to leave the house. I don't know how long of a drive it was but she acted like I do when I have to get up at 5am. Not to mention that she can just go home and go back to bed anyway. It's not like she has anything else to do nor does she care. I've really had it with her and any sympathy I may have felt for her is gone. She's just disgustingly pathetic now.
