I think his dad truly wants to see Sophia and knows that Farrah can make that null and void if she wants to. I am sure deep down they all want to crush her larnyx with their shoe.
shareThat's what I think, they are at her whim. Pretty sure they can't stand her either. What's weird is that she talks to them fine but to everyone else, they incure her wrath. Personally, I think she has some serious unresolved issues and guilt over how she treated him in the months leading up to his death. I also think she resents her parents for making her cut him off before his death. Debra always had an "oh well" attitude about the guy's death and that's fuvked up. He was someone's dad, son, brother, etc and she showed no sympathy for his death or for Farrah's pain regarding his death. I remember one scene with Dr Drew where Farrah was crying her eyes out over him and Deb just looked aloof like "So, is there anymore crab balls in the back?" She didn't once console Farrah. It's like she blames Derrick for the pregnancy, as if Farrah was an innocent angel who had nothing to do with it. I think Farrah and Sophia need real help from a real therapist OFF camera. She dealt with a lot losing him, being a new mom, post partum, school, work, grief. I used to feel really bad for her in the earlt days. I don't know what happened to her between the years 2011-now
shareI think the only two reasons anyone puts up with Farrah at this point are to one, see sophia and two, for notoriety from the show. She is unbearable.
shareShe was actually surprisingly "normal" during that bit with Derek's family, seemed cheerful and polite and everything. I almost didn't recognize her. Quite a contrast from the way she is with Debra, Michael, Simon, etc.

Whenever she acts like anything near her age, Farrah yells at her to sit still, be quiet, act right, etc. It's sad in a way. What would be great for her probably is to spend more time with Derrick's family ALONE. Leave Farrah to her own devices for a while. It would get her away from Deb too. She is so selfish. How often does Sophia see Derrick's family or his dad? They get back and she's all "you guys need to come see me too" like it's a contest and she's jealous. She will end up trying to make Sophia choose if she ever wants to have a real relationship with his family. Such a horrible dynamic and environment she is growing you around. I personally think she is a wretched child, but on the same token I feel bad for her.
shareI agree. Farrah or Debra didn't want his family in the picture which is messed up. She deserves to know her dad's family. What hurts is that she doesn't see Stormie, Derricks mom. I hate how disrespectful MtV is to refer to his stepmom as his mom as if Stormie is not alive. Had they lived in Pa Stormie could have gone for Grandparents Rights in the court to allow visitation. I wonder if his sister Cassie sees Sophia at all. That kid is so messed up, even now. Wait until she gets a lot older and has to start understanding the fact that her dad is dead. She understands it now but on a very innocent level, but I think she will feel the affects of it later on.

shareStormie, she and Farrah don't get along and probably didn't when he was alive too. Stormie tried to get rights to see Sophia when she was about 1 but Ferral blocked it, which was selfish and a disservice to Sophia. Sophia is the only living link to Derrick and she deserves to know her. I hope when Sophia is older she will reach out to Stormie or vice versa.

shareDerrick's family seem like just good, working class folks. So this leads me to believe that Darrick must have been a descent guy too, since this is where he came from.
I think Deb blamed him for everything. Then she convinced Farrah, who was pregnant and scared, that he was a bad guy. And Farrah bought it, as shown on 16 And Pregnant.
Then before Farrah could think for herself, he was killed.
And I am not defending Farrah in any way. She is horrible! And she still would have treated him like dirt even without Deb's influence. But her mom pushed it before his death. And this is a big reason for her resentment toward Deb.
The thing I remember about Derek was when he was harassing Farrah at work on her 16&P... I don't know if that says what kind of a guy he was in general or if it was an anomaly in his personality (I mean, who WOULDN'T yell at Farrah from time to time?), but I've always had it in the back of my mind when trying to figure out who Derek actually was.
I agree that his family seems great.
