I'm confused. If Tyler paid someone to do the flooring in their new house and it was done incorrectly, can't they go after that company for a refund on the work since it has to be completely ripped out and redone and isn't some easy fix? I can't imagine they have to just take the loss and move on. If you buy a product and it doesn't work, you get a refund, it's it the same way with services?
shareI was wondering the exact same thing. It's the contractors fault that the floors buckled... he should've known better, being a professional and all. I would have fired him if he didn't give a refund. Floors are pretty easy to install too, and Tyler could do it himself and save the cost of labor.
shareWell Tyler was obviously too nice because he's probably never been in that situation before. It's like when you get that first crazy hairstyle you wanted at the salon and the stylist does a shtty job - you just suck it up and move on.

I did two rooms and a hallway all by myself, single-handed, with zero experience, but I did a lot of reading up on it beforehand. (Eight years, no buckling so far.) I haven't seen the show yet, but I wonder if they didn't use spacers around the perimeter. Or maybe they just used super-cheap knock-off product, or the subfloor they overlaid was uneven or unstable to begin with. It's a pretty easy DIY project, but you do have to do the prep work and know what the material can and can't handle.
shareIt was said no gap was left at all, which is like flooring 101. Clearly, professionals didn't do this job...I wonder if maybe Tyler or his dad did it, and that's why he can't go after anyone for a refund.
shareYeah I agree that Tyler and Butch did it themselves and didn't leave a gap. I doubt they hired professionals to do it. My brother-in-law made the same mistake when he installed laminate floors in his house.
