It's both confusing and frustrating to see. If they feel MTV is allowing them to bypass a steady job for income, don't they want to do some thing that is productive... especially because productivity is a great cure for boredom? Take up hobbies, volunteer, take classes, do something other than sit on your couch and complain about boredom!
If Amber is really doing the flipping-houses thing, cool, but she still has enough free time to routinely be bored. So why doesn't she do something more fulfilling? For her, especially, if drugs were a part of her coping skills before and now there has been binge-eating, Amber would be well served to fill her time with healthier activities that she can enjoy so unhealthy choices aren't her fallback.
And then there is Catelynn: she has a toddler daughter... how the hell is Catelynn bored?! At the age of starting to walk and talk, there is so much fun stuff to do with Nova. Catelynn is blessed to be able to stay at home. Nova doesn't need to be the only thing to fulfill Catelynn, of course, and Catelynn could also find some hobbies to do or classes to take.
I have zero patience for a girl who pawns her toddler off on her mother on a regular basis, then complains that she is bored. Oh yes, Catelynn also has depression and anxiety. Both are terrible, and I truly sympathize with her. But when I see Catelynn use them as excuses, I want to scream, "take some responsibility for your life! You have some control. Use it!" When Catelynn was clearly high af, lying on the couch and saying, "I'm bored," I wanted to smack her silly.
Maybe it's as simple as: only boring people are bored.
