Did anyone else catch the crazy amount of delusion that Cate and Ty have about how Carly see them? On part one of the catch up special they were saying how she idolizes them and how she saw Cate last in her wedding dress so to her she is like a princess. They were saying it basically to insinuate that B&T don't want Carly to visit them because she may want to be with them more. Some of the comments they made were really crazy.
On a side note: I re-watched their 16 and pregnant today and was actually pretty appalled at the doctor trying to force Cate to look at Carly right as she was born, even after they repeatedly said she didn't want to look. Then they had to take her across the street to hand her off. I can see how the whole thing could have really been traumatic for Cate. Having to force yourself to detach from your own baby, yet holding her and such. It makes me wonder if that's not partly why she seems to disconnected with Nova.
They are very delusional. They still look at Carly as their child and while biological yes they created her, Carly is NOT THERE CHILD. It was disturbing to see them celebrate her birthday like she is away at camp or something lol. Why are you celebrating a birthday for a child you gave up for adoption? They don't get it and it's only going to make things worse for all of them on both sides, including Nova. I do think Cate resents Nova because she isn't Carly or that she can't connect to her because she isn't Carly. I wonder if Cate would feek differently about her child had Nova been a boy. As far as the hospital hand off, it couldn't be done on the premises for some odd reason. I forget why. I think it was because April refused to sign something or another. That was actually really sad with the scene of her trying not to look at Carly. It actually made me tear up when it first aired.

I don't have a maternal bone in my body (honestly, I don't) yet that scene was one of the most tragic things I've ever seen on TV, especially with Tyler crying and saying "no".

This may well be the case. Any lack of bonding sure wasn't helped by Cate giving Nova off to April so often when she was a newborn, but still. I also wonder if things might have been different if her second child had been a boy, as you mention above... that would remove many of the similarities between the two babies, and it might have been more of a "clean slate", so to speak. Plus, Tyler seems to really want a boy, so who knows... things might have turned out much better.
Poor Nova; she's in a real bad situation and it's SO not her fault.

Right. That was a very heartbreaking scene between the two. You're right, Nova is and will be a victim of circumstance. This girl will always be compared to Carly. I wouldn't be surprised if she began to rebel as a teen or even resent Carly.
Ugh that scene was very heart-breaking when Carly was born and the doctor kept telling Cate to look at the baby but Cate didn't want to. It was pretty cruel of the doctor to do that, surely the doctor knew it was an adoption situation and I think Cate had made her feelings known.
I just had my first baby 5 weeks ago. One thing I heard about but wasn't fully prepared for was the bond at birth. When the doctor puts the baby on your chest for skin-to-skin and the baby is looking around but when he or she hears your voice and looks at you and focuses right on you, it's just very powerful. Definitely the most powerful thing I have ever experienced and will ever experience. They know your voice and your smell and they know you're their mom. You are this little creature's entire world. I think it would be unbelievably cruel to force that on Cate when she didn't want it because she knew that the baby will be taken away from her.
I can't imagine the doctor knew of the situation, otherwise, I would really hope he wouldn't act that way :/ Anyway, Catelynn looked like a kid, even if the baby weren't being adopted, that should have been a sign the moment isn't one of pure joy.
Yep and Cate even said in that same scene "they haven't sent me pics of MY kid." From what I gathered about that scene was that it's been a couple of years since C&T have sent any presents to Carly and the adoption lady was trying to tell them that she's old enough now that she will notice the lack of presents from them. She was telling them to be consistent and get off their butts to actually mail the stuff, basically.
Yes.. that scene is very hard to watch. I can't even imagine having to go through that and let go of my baby. The doctor was very cruel, in my opinion. It had to be awful for them both.
Personally I don't think they need to send all that to Carly. One or two things are appropriate. They sent damn near a truck load one year. They look at themselves and want to be treated like they are relatives of the family and they aren't. It's down right obsession it seems.
It's likely just the opposite in real life: instead of Carly idolizing Catelynn and Tyler, she probably is thankful that they aren't anything more than her biological parents. I mean, goodness gracious, who do you think she would rather have as parents: educated, kind, well-off adults who truly love her and can give her the world, or uneducated, unemployed, unmotivated, selfish kids (because that's how they act) who just love the idea of her?
Can you imagine Carly's life if she stayed with them? She'd be spending her first year watching her parents struggle through high school, her grandma blowing Newports in her face, screaming, crawling over beer cans. That wouldn't have been the life she deserved. This is why idiot kids need to use protection and not make babies until they can provide for them.
Carly is only 7 and a well to do life is the only life she knows. She's too young to have a frame of reference between trailer trash (her bio parents) and hoity toity adoptive family. So she doesn't exactly realize yet that her bio parents are losers. I wonder how the adoption/tv thing will impact her life when she's a little older like 12 and older. What will her relationship be with Cate and Ty when she's out of her parents grasp. That's going to be interesting.
Well, when she's old enough to see this show and how ridiculous they both look on it, I wouldn't be surprised if she's glad her parents shielded her so much from them.
My SO and I both snorted when Catelyn said that she looked like a princess and that Carly idolizes her. Delusional. Also when Catelyn said something about how she's entitled to pictures of "MY kid" that really really annoyed me. That's so disrespectful to B+T. I wish Catelyn and Tyler would get the *beep* out with their entitled attitudes. They didn't raise Carly therefore they didn't earn the title of mom and dad. I hardly think Catelyn earns the title of mom at all based on how she never interacts with her own kid. My son is close to Novas age and I'm so rarely laying down on the bed/couch like Catelyn always is. Get off your fat ass and play with your kid.
